Running 1:08:00 [2] 11.2 km (6:04 / km)
shoes: Yellow mizunos

Trail run along Gibson Reservoir close to Sun Canyon Lodge with Alli's brother Jeremy. A really beautiful run, with the reservoir below us and mountains towering all around. Really fun, and a nice conversation, mostly discussing the soccer World Cup and explaining orienteering to Jeremy.

Running 34:00 [2] 4.86 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: Yellow mizunos

By myself at Sun Canyon Lodge near Augusta, Montana. We are here for a couple of days for Alli's mom's 60th birthday. I went out for a trail run to stretch my legs. The run was basically straight uphill in one direction, which, combined with the altitude (about 5000ft), made the going very tough in the beginning. Also, I was afraid I would get eaten by a bear. I didn't, so that's a plus.

Note

So it's official. I will have a job for the next academic year in Washington, DC, as a Congressional Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, starting on September 1.

Alli and I are packing up and leaving Sweden on June 18 and will spend some time traveling around the States, seeing family and friends and doing some orienteering, before ending up in Washington towards the middle of August.

I am excited for this move and the new job and will undoubtedly be sad to finally leave Uppsala after so many years.

Running 30:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Yellow mizunos

Warm up and then cooldown with Jules, Ralph, and Kent O, mostly talking to Jules about US politics, which he knows way more about than I do.

Orienteering race 17:27 [5] 3.2 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Yellow mizunos

Stockholm City Cup at Rålambshovsparken.

Pretty sure this is my last race in Sweden, at least this time around. I am also pretty sure that when Kenny and I showed up in Stockholm for the summer of 2001, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, that our first race was a Stockholm City Cup at Rålambshovsparken, so that makes for a fairly fitting farewell.

My records show a time of 17:30 in 2001, as opposed to the 17:27 tonight.

I think I ran pretty well technically. Was confused in one spot when I didn't see a control behind a garbage container. Also unsure of a couple of route choices, but nothing stands out from the splits as particularly bad. However, I have definitely gotten out of practice of running sprints - both in terms of pushing myself to the limit of map-reading ability, and also in terms of speed of map reading. I felt like I had a lot more left in me when I finished. Definitely should have run harder during the course. But that's just a matter of running more sprint races.

Ended up 52nd. A revanche-hungry Jonas Leandersson crushed the course in 12:56.

Nice dinner with Jules, Felicity, and Lachlan afterwards.

Orienteering 1:48:15 [2] 13.53 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Supra 2013

A long orienteering session on Nåsten, doing some old course from earlier this spring. Really great weather for running - cool and overcast, but not cold. Really enjoyed myself out there after getting through the first part of the course that was very junky.
