Morning spinning class at good old F&S with Seb and Beth. Good, sweaty times. Then I went and spanked Seb at his own card game. It was satisfying.

Running 40:22 [2] 6.73 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: 2010 Asics

Nice afternoon jog in Stadsskogen with Beth and Seb. Each person picked a destination in the forest, and someone else led the way there. Fun times, including visiting the evil chihuahua.

Upplands Night-DM

A good race + a bad result means bad shape. As far as I remember, this was my first night orienteering since Pawuckaway, just about a year ago. I started off the race with a 3-minute mistake one number 1 and decided to take safe route choices for a while after that. For many controls I was going back and forth with Mats Fröberg, which made the race more fun. I took different routes several times, but we came to controls at the same time on every leg. (The Swedish following rule would surely disqualify at least one of us.) On the long leg to 9 Mats got away as I was getting tired, but he missed it and I punched just ahead of him. Then he I got 10 cleanly and got ahead for good. I was very tired in the end and made small mistakes on 16 and 18, but am otherwise happy with my navigation - about 4.5 minutes lost on my first night-O in a year. The result is dismal, though: 11th of the 12 who finished the course!

Note

Took a friend around an old course in Stadsskogen in the afternoon. This was her first orienteering experience. She then went out and did a part of an open course at the Night-DM with Beth's help and seemed hooked. Sweet!

Orienteering 15:00 [2] 2.14 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: 2010 Asics

Super-secret ultrasprint training at Högbergsparken with Seb and Beth. Got busted by a three-time Swedish champion though.

Orienteering 9:00 [5] 2.0 km (4:30 / km)
shoes: 2009 VJ Falcons

Ultrasprint race on Blodan, organized by Terese. The first part was a mass start, which is not a great idea in an ultrasprint race. This means everyone is just following the leader the whole way, and the orienteering is minimal. It was forked, to be fair, but not enough to keep it from mostly being a running race. I finished just behind Sofie and Seb, just ahead of Lasso, and miles ahead of Millinger. :)
Then came the chase start, which was only slightly better than the mass start, though I did manage to mess up, following Seb the wrong way towards #3. Ended up behind Seb again and held off Sofie.
Hard to count these controls towards the year's total, but you take what you can get.

Grilling, welcoming of new members, and celebration of all the club's SM winners this year (Albin - night, sprint, relay, Mandus - relay, Rassmus - middle, relay, Henrik - relay, Mats - relay, Mattias - long, relay) followed at the clubhouse.
