Orienteering 37:20 [3] *** 4.6 km (8:07 / km)
spiked:69/75c shoes: Fall 2009 VJ Falcons

Control-picking training on Lunsen, set by Simon: 4.6km, 75 controls. My kind of training - i really like this. It was a great exercise in recognizing dot knolls, as we probably had controls on like 40 of them. Really fun training on a nice day.

Running 10:00 [2] 1.67 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Fall 2009 VJ Falcons

A bit of running around before the orienteering.

Jogging between maps.

Orienteering 25:00 [4]
shoes: Fall 2009 VJ Falcons

Jan and Tomas organized a "boys' day" in Uppsala. The first part of the day was a 2-man ultrasprint relay with 10 total legs on the 3 DxDeluxe maps. Teammates assigned randomly, and I ended up with Isak Bergman. The first four legs (2 each, ~450m, 11 controls and ~750m, 14 controls) were on Kung Björn's Hill, and we came out of this part in 3rd, about 45 seconds down on the lead. After jogging over to Högbergsparken, the relay was restarted with a mass start on the next two highly forked legs (~800m, 21 controls). We managed to get into the lead here, as other teams made big mistakes. The final 4 legs (~550m, ~700m) were started as a chase start with reduced time differences (since our lead was so huge :) on Blodan. We hung on for the win, my first in Sweden this year. Obviously, ultrasprints are awesome, and I had a blast doing this!!

From Mats' to the start of backbana, then a lap of backbana, then back. Was expecting to feel worse (given yesterday's cold symptoms) and run slower than I did, so I am pleased. Definitely can't take a trip to Uppsala without running backbanan at least once!

Note

Tired and feeling a cold coming on, so took the day off. Went and played ping-pong instead. Was told that even the worst Swede is better at ping pong than the best American.
Well, if you can judge by this one guy, then it's definitely true.

Orienteering 1:10:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) + (35:00 @4)
shoes: Fall 2009 VJ Falcons

"Hat orienteering" organized by Linné's juniors. The idea is this: you run in a team of two. The first person (#1) takes the map and runs to where the first control is supposed to be with a hat. They hang the hat at the first control and run back to the start/finish, where they hand off the map to their teammate (#2). #2 runs to the first control, grabs the hat and runs to the second control, hanging the hat there and returning to the start/finish to hand off the map to #1. This continues until all the controls have been visited. Good training which doesn't require pre-hanged controls. Lots of fun. My teammate was Sara, and we managed to mostly hang stuff in the right places, though it was getting dark and hard to see towards the end. Nice dinner at Sara and Mari's (and Marta's) followed.

T.rex training 40:00 [1]

At F&S in Uppsala. Can't say I missed the gym - it's stuffy and cramped compared to the Payne Whitney gym at Yale. However, they have expanded it a bit and added machines, so that's nice.

Cross-Training 50:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) + (5:00 @4)

Spinning, after having to search a while to find the new spinning room.
