Orienteering 55:00 [1] *** 4.58 km (12:00 / km)
shoes: 2009 VJ Falcons

Went to Saxon Woods on the way home from NYC. We drew four short loops, I ended up running three of them: one hanging, one running for real, and one shadowing Kat. Felt really weak today, but still enjoyed this fine little area as always. Thanks to Jeremy Colgan for hooking us up with maps on a short notice!

Orienteering 40:00 [4] *** 5.5 km (7:16 / km)
shoes: 2009 VJ Falcons

HVO local meet at Westmoreland in Westchester. It was really nice to see a lot of familiar faces at the meet, but also sad to not meet any new ones. I did meet Glen Schorr and got to talk to him a bit, which was nice.
Westmoreland is a great area! I forgot how open and fast the woods were here and really enjoyed it today. It did take me a control or two to figure out that the scale on the map was wrong.
Also, I saw a really large turtle sunning himself in a clearing. Came back to look for him and take pictures after the finish, but he had run off.

Running 53:00 [2] 6.63 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Rob's shoes

Running at Sleeping Giant State Park with feet and Kat. If you add unpronunciation, who was walking around, and Siobhan and Marie plus friends, then there were more orienteers here today than at some local events I've been to. Fantastic.

Orienteering 52:16 [2] 4.5 km (11:37 / km)
shoes: 2009 VJ Falcons

Training on the permanent course on Osbornedale with Kat. She asked me to do a distraction exercise, where I would run with her and try to make her stray from her plan. This was a lot of fun: sometimes I would run ahead and run too far on the trail, seeing if she would follow me and miss her attack; sometimes I would make a parallel error and run to a similar feature or climb up a wrong reentrant; and other times I would simply question her "Are you sure this is the right rock? I don't think this trail is mapped."
The only unfortunate thing (besides the green and the spider webs) was that a lot (most) of the permanent controls were missing.

Event: WOC 2009

Running 52:02 [2] 8.67 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Rob's shoes

Running to the top of East Rock, up the Giant Steps with Kat. It's gorgeous up there, though the steps aren't the most fun way to get up there.
