Running 1:31:40 [2] 10.18 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Falcons-Fall '07

Scared by the length of the US Champs courses, I got myself out the door for my first longish run in eternity. Ran around Nåsten, mostly on small trails and through woods. So nice to be out, even if my butt hurt!

Note

Injury update: Between Jukola and O-Ringen I did virtually nothing, trying to see if rest made any difference. I think I ran in the forest twice during the JWOC week and once a week before O-Ringen, each time for about 40 minutes. No other training. As of O-Ringen, there had been no change for better or worse, so I ran O-Ringen, switching down to the H21Kort (Short) course for the week. I ran ok, coming in 14th out of 250 other invalids on the course overall. I felt very much out of shape, but my navigation was ok and the injury did not get worse during the week.
Before the last day, I got treated by Vendula Klechova, Halden's and the Czech WOC Team's physio, who came highly recommended by Swisscheese. She poked at me for a while, then sat on me, caused some unspeakable pain, and declared that my injury wasn't really a muscle strain (which should have gotten better with rest), but some sort of imbalance in the pelvis that causes my periformis muscle to be constantly pulled. She said going to a chiropractor and doing a bunch of stretching and strength for the butt muscles and quads is the way to get cured. She also said I can start running, as long as I do all these other things. So I suppose I will start training again and search for a chiropractor to see. Anyone know a good one in the Laramie area?

The 2008 season is already pretty much ruined for me. The US Champs are the next event on the schedule, and I am going, but still not sure if I will run and what course I should do. If I am feeling ok, I will try to run blue and just have fun and enjoy the courses and the awesome Wyoming terrain, not really thinking about results and places and not having any expectations.

Time to plan the comeback for 2009. Where/when are the US Champs?

Jog with Kat out to Nåsten to find a geocache buried there, our 7th so far. Beautiful, sunny day. Nice to be in the forest that feels so familiar by now.
