Note
(sick) (rest day)

Spectating the Swedish WOC Trials classic race. Watching people stumble and nearly crawl up the murderous hill to the last control and the finish did not exactly inspire me to want to go out and race today.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Spectating the middle distance race of the Swedish WOC trials. The terrain and courses looked really fun, and I was very tempted to go out and run anyway, but ended up not doing that. Hopefully, this is a sign of maturity and not of weakness.

Orienteering 35:00 [1] 2.5 km (14:00 / km)

Walking around a training map for the Swedish middle distance WOC trials. Really fun sand dune terrain, reminiscent of Latvia, as well as Ukraine. Tried running a couple of times, but my head started spinning each time. No more racing for me this week-end. What a waste of a week, with just over a month left till WOC...

Swedish WOC Trials, Sprint.
Have been feeling sort-of sick since Sunday but, after long debates with myself, decided to give it a go anyway. Bad, bad idea. I felt awful and really weak right from the start and it only got worse. Additionally, it was a hilly sprint, and here my total lack of fighting spirit made things even worse as I could not force myself to push hard up the hills and ended up walking half of them. To add insult to injury, I went up to my neck in the "creek" we were crossing on the way from 11 to 12 and was stuck in the muck for like 30 seconds. All in all, an utterly miserable day. I think I am starting to lean towards the Swedish philosophy of total rest at even the slightest hint of a cold in order to recover quicker.

Orienteering 17:30 [1] 2.3 km (7:37 / km)
shoes: 2007 VJ Falcons

Feeling on the edge of being sick when I woke up, so instead of doing the planned sprint intervals, I did nothing and then, instead of jogging around one of the courses I set for tonight's training, I hung controls for the easiest course, pretty much all on trails. Not much in the way of training, but I think it was the right decision in the long run, especially if I hope to race Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Tonight's training, of course, included eating lots of wild strawberry by the side of the road. Yum.
