Note

Looks like i am training again. The motivation finally seems to be back, and I am pretty excited about the upcoming season. The 2003 rankings were disappointing, but not surprising - too much inconsistency and too many bad races for me last season. I will try to get more map time this spring and gradually build up speed at which i can read the map to where it was a couple of years ago.
In setting goals for the year, I must look at the WCOC A-Meet as a preliminary indicator of shape, then at the middle distance course at the North Americans as the biggest spring event. And then, of course, the Team Trials in Wyoming.
A look back at 2003: 47 races, of them 13 in Europe and 4 in Canada.

Best races of the year for me:
1. Swiss Team Trials Middle Distance
2. Billygoat
3. SVO A-Meet Short Day
4. WOC Middle DIstance Qualifier
5. Hudson Highlander
6. WCOC A-Meet Day 2
7. Pawtuckaway Relay Leg

Worst:
1. US Champs Day 1 !!!!!!!!
2. US Short Champs (both)
3. West Point Day 1
4. Swiss A-Meet Long Race
5. US Champs Day 2
6. Team Trials Classic
7. SVO A-Meet Day 2

Most fun events:
1. WOC
2. Attackpoint Cup in Pawtuckaway
3. GLOF

Least fun events:
1. US Champs (yuck)
2. West Point (injured)
3. Flying Pig (bloody)

Here's to some fun courses in 2004!!!!!

Orienteering 1:33:24 [3] 12.5 km (7:28 / km)

Running a course at Holmdel while carrying a map from Harriman, on which we had to determine if each control was higher or lower than the previous one. Then, a 6.2km trail run with Alexei and Dmitriy.

Orienteering 1:19:18 [3] 11.0 km (7:13 / km)

Rerunning an old course at Colliers Mills, while memorizing the route to the next leg and drawing it at each control - a very nice exercise set up by Alexei. Everything went great until John and I got stuck in a swamp. I fell through to my waist, probably because i am fat. :)
