Cruise around the neighborhood woods. The highlight was taking a barbed wire fence across the chest and arms halfway through. Some solid stigmata to show for it.

Fitness blender workout: upper body plus cardio outside with Alli while Inara napped in the car following a great hike in Fairy Stones state park. She did great, running over a mile on the way out to the waterfall, and then chartering and telling the stories while riding on my shoulders the whole way back. Very few people in the park, so I expect we'll be back.

Terrain run in the woods out back. Felt much weaker than last time, which made me sad until I realized that it was 80F, and I am not used to warm weather at all. Still good to get out into the woods!

Family exercise time. HIIT+lower body strength+abs. Then - time to feed the ducks, goats, and donkey, followed by a call with NEH. Telework life is weird.

Family exercise hour. We then headed to Hanging Rock State Park in North Carolina for an outing. It was very crowded, so we just hiked off-trail most of the time. It worked just fine, and I think Inara liked the bushwhacking much better than walking on the actual trail.

Got out for an early evening terrain run as Inara napped for the first time all week. It was so nice to get out into the woods and just run! Does wonders for my mental health.

I found another turtle shell and brought it to a spot in the woods closer to our cottage so Inara can "discover" it tomorrow.

Note

Made it to Stuart, VA, deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Time to do some serious social distancing. We have the Airbnb for the next two weeks. The plan is to take turns working and taking care of Inara. We'll see how it goes, but being out in nature seems a lot better than being in DC right now.

QOC local event at Wheaton.

I signed up for Blue, knowing that Wheaton tends to be pretty fast, with frequent trail options. Tom Nolan set a very good Blue course that had a middle distance-y feel to it, which I really appreciate and don't get enough in QOC land.

I ran ok, though felt quite slow, unsurprisingly. I gave away about 2.5-3 minutes, mostly due to lack of focus on 4 and 11, a poor route choice on 16, and simply not seeing the flag or the "dot knoll" on 7.

Joe thrashed me by almost 6 minutes, which would have been even more had he not run around as a "wolf" for junior training this morning.

Speaking of junior training, I am really pleased with how it's been going. This year I decided that we had enough of a critical mass of juniors and engaged parents to have QOC junior training at every local event. Parents take turns organizing. It's been less work and stress for me, and great training offerings for our junior s throughout the year. The parents have stepped up in a big way, and have offered a great variety of trainings.

Elliptical in the morning in the LOC gym. I started a detail at the Library of Congress' Kluge Center yesterday. It is a very different role to what I do at CRS, and will come with some adjustments. I will be responsible for events and fellowships, and will be supervising a small team of three. Looking forward to it!
