Orienteering 41:46 [3] 3.5 km (11:56 / km)

Training at Surebridge with Sergey and Patrick. Setting my course - felt good orienteering, kept contact with the map the whole way.

Orienteering 22:18 [4] 2.7 km (8:16 / km)

Running the course Pat set at race speed. Had no real mistakes, but was hurting on the uphills. Would be able to compare splits wit Sergey if he didn't accidentally run the course in the wrong order!

Orienteering 32:04 [3] 3.1 km (10:21 / km)

Running Sergey's course after finishing Patrick's. Made a 2:30 error on the second control, maybe another 30 seconds on 3rd. Also, feeling tired and dehydrated climbing the last hills towards the finish. Clearly, i am still not used to racing in the heat and humidity...The swim in Lake Tiorati afterwards was quite refreshing, though.

Jogging around Owl's Head Park (Park-O, anyone?) and then back uphill towards home. Last mile up 7th avenue - 6:59.

Running with Sergei from my apartment to Prospect Park (13min), a loop around Prospect Park (23:07), then some more in the park and back home. Running quite fast for an 'easy' day. I don't think Sergei understands the concept of a "recovery run". :)

DVOA local meet at Hickory Run. Thick, rocky, hot, no features. Awful race for me, featuring two 7-minute errors and overall slowness and tiredness. I need a couple of days off right now.

Running around on Silvermine, going to some circles on the map. Got very dehydrated and stopped, deciding to take a trail back.

At Blue Mountain with Ross and Suzanne. Felt very sluggish and could not concentrate well. Will start sleeping more than 3 hours a night soon.

A miserable attempt to go for a training run at Saxon Woods Park in Westchester and to try to get there by public transportation. The trip took me 3.5 hours (one way!), and rain started pouring halfway through my run, making everything so dark that i couldn't read the map at all and soaking everything i had in my backpack. I need a car. And a driver's license. Not in that order.

Note

Shortly after i started orienteering today, i realized that i had absolutely no energy in my body. This has to be due to the self-induced sleep deprivation i've been going through the last couple of weeks while watching almost all World Cup Soccer matches on TV, live, and in Spanish. Perhaps i will try to sleep some more this coming week and will at least take tomorrow off from training.

Long training run on a wet Silvermine map. Found a bunch of controls on the permanent course set by the Fredericksons! (Thanks for that!!! It's awesome!) Afterwards, jumped into Tiorati Lake with Dmitry Kourtchikov and was amused by the three lifeguards that ran out to watch over us for the five minutes we were in the water.

Intervals, first interval session in a while. I definitely forgot how to pace myself and went out too fast with Dema on the first lap. Did 3 1200's with 3 min rest. Will gradually increase the interval length and number as the summer progresses.

Anyway, I am in New York for the summer, looking for work and hanging out, while resuming training after a far-too-long break. I am very envious of the guys who went to the World Cups in Belgium and Switzerland...Maybe next year.

Running around the Hammond Pond map on a beautiful day. It was quite overgrown, so slow going and a lot of trail running for me.
