Running 30:00 [2]

Junior training in the pouring rain at Great Falls. We did a 10-minute warmup jog and then theoretical exercises that involved figuring out if a control was higher or lower than the previous one on the run. I used the maps from JWOC and EYOC. Great turnout - 21 Patriot JROTC kids plus 9 of our regular QOC juniors.

Orienteering race 1:01:03 [4] 8.4 km (7:16 / km)

QOC local event at Great Falls.

After the morning's downpour, the sun came out, and it was downright warm. Nadim set a great course with all the constraints from the park, and I really enjoyed being out there. After a few controls, my legs felt dead, and it was a struggle the rest of the way. I was finding myself walking most of the uphills. Navigation was shaky in the beginning, as I drifted on 3 and 5, and a little bit on 7 and 8 too. Pretty good, though slow, after that, and small mistakes on 19 and 23 in the end. Probably close to three minutes lost altogether. Kenny was cleaner and Jordan faster, with Joe close behind. Nice to have some good competition at local events!
