Got back from Charlotte early enough to be picked up at DCA by Alli, Inara, and Barnacle, and whisked away down to Occoquan for the QOC season opener. I had a coaching session with the juniors. We went over today's races and also analyzed potential route choices on maps from the Yukon. We also had a nice discussion of the season's goals, plans, and things to work on.
Some skills that were identified: compass work, relocation, orienteering at high speed, orienteering in technical terrain.
My hope for this year is to get the juniors up to Harriman (or similar) for a training camp for a couple of tense of intense technical orienteering.
We had a solid group: Diana, Alexis, Josh, Patrick, plus the seven juniors from FUMA. Sad to not have Turner and Sam in the area anymore, though.
