Long Distance JWOC Tour race at Pirto, Hungary (4.1 km). First three controls were great and I felt really confident and then I blew up. Parallel error on the long 3 to 4 leg that meant I was much further S than I thought I was and ended up just off the map on the trail to the start (why do all these people not have maps? --- oh...). Relocated to a hunters stand just east of the start and then directly to 4. Passed just E of 5 and over the trail to the go control then stood on a hill looking at the arena but couldn't figure out which hill I was on. Went down to almost the go control, walked up the trail and easily found 5 just E of the ruins. C6 was fine but started out to 7 without a plan and walked in circles not knowing where I was. Ended up S on fenced area from which I walked on a bearing to C7 easily. I even managed to mess up the go to the trail and to the go control leg by walking W and missing the trail and continuing to the W trail which I followed to where I was sure which trail I was on and jumped over to the trail SW on the go control. After a fun day yesterday when I disappointed that the course went so quickly, I got my wish. It is amazing how different the two courses could be on the same map. Now I'm scared of the juniper mazes for the middles as my map reading was horrible today.
