4 PM

run 18:25 [3] 2.0 mi (9:12 / mi)

Quick run on the Monon instead of my planned strength workout in the (warm) Y building. It was cool but my pace was unexpectedly quick.

Sunday Dec 29, 2013 #

2 PM

run 29:27 [3] 2.47 mi (11:55 / mi)

Trail run at Marrott Park with Rob and Aidan for the first 1.7 mile when they peeled off down the Monon Trail and I made my way back to the start. The trail system along the edge of Williams Creek is deteriorating with sections of the trail having fallen into the creek over the past couple of years.

run 18:45 [3] 2.11 mi (8:53 / mi) +9m 8:46 / mi

Neighbourhood run around Englewood and Rosemead loop. Sunny and warm enough for tights and a long sleeve top. The last time I ran this loop was in July when my pace was 10:41/mile on a humid and much warmer evening. All of our running and walking in Norwich has paid off!

run 23:30 [3] 2.34 mi (10:03 / mi) +10m 9:55 / mi

Christmas Day run at Eagle Creek East; bird sanctuary loop from Lilly Lake parking lot. The cold (28ºF) slows me down, especially when I haven't acclimitized yet. Indianapolis is about 12 degrees latitude south of Norwich but the temperature in the winter seems to be about 20ºF colder; being an island in a huge ocean has a big warming effect.

Walking at the British Museum.

Friday Dec 20, 2013 #

9 AM

walk 48:00 [3] 2.78 mi (17:16 / mi)

Walk to City Academy and then on to the John Innes Center with Aidan.
3 PM

run 24:12 [3] 2.41 mi (10:02 / mi)

Last run along the River Yare and around the UEA Broad on a bright sunny afternoon. I'm still fighting the cold Aidan and Rob had last weekend so this run felt hard.

Orienteering race 1:13:01 [3] *** 4.0 km (18:15 / km) +20m 17:49 / km

Our final British orienteering event :( . Norfolk Orienteering event at Hockham, part of the Thetford forest near Norwich. Green course. The terrain was rougher than at most venues in the area so was more like home even if it was very flat. Once again the earth walls caused more trouble than I think they should. I had problems with C8 which was on the end of a drainage ditch that I came to from the top and blank side - ended up making three attempts at it.

We will miss running at the local events here. Everyone has been welcoming but we especially appreciate the enthusiasm of the club captain Glen Richardson. The events are well organized, efficient, and have been a lot of fun! Thanks NOR!

run 25:36 [3] 2.6 mi (9:51 / mi)

Slow run around Unthank, Bluebell, South Park loop on a clear and crisp evening. Tonight was the first time this season that it was cold enough to feel it in my lungs.

Orienteering race 1:31:26 [3] *** 4.9 km (18:40 / km)

SUFFOC Event at Knettishall Heath. Pretty day with bright sunshine but cool temperatures. Fun Green course even with tired legs from yesterday's Snowdon climb. I had problems on C8 where coming out of C7 there were two close-by depressions of which I only saw one on the map and couldn't make the trails fit the map but took off on one trail only to eventually have to come back and try again - lost at least 10 min. Also had trouble on C12. I intended to aim off and hit an earth wall to the west of the control and follow it in but somehow I ended up far east of the control on a perpendicular earth wall probably lost 8 min here. In both cases, better compass work would have helped alot.
