Running hills 1:14:47 [5] 6.9 km (10:50 / km) +530m 7:50 / km

H&D 6, Loughshannagh Horseshoe. Boy this one was a toughie. Legs were knackered before I had even started so I started walking really early on as we headed up Ott. Managed to push on a bit off the top of Ott and passed a few people who were falling into marshes. The ascent of Loughshannagh was absolute hell, my calves were in agony to the point that I considered packing it in at the top. Thought it was going to be tight to get across and up Doan before the 39 min cut off, but was banking on the downhill giving me a bit of respite (calves) and allow me to claw so time back. Oh how I was wrong. I pansied down that hill, it was much steeper and rougher than I was imagining. Pretty much had to crawl up the last part of Doan, to arrive at the top at 37.50 . Again the decent wasn't much fun - it was really churned up and slippery. Picked up a couple of places running along the reservoir and another couple going up Carn. Had to work hard to reel in one girl on the decent back to the carpark but eventually got her on the grassy track.

Would like to try this again sometime when my legs aren't fecked as I enjoyed tonight in a sadistic kinda way.

Orienteering 30:32 [3] 4.82 km (6:20 / km) +30m 6:09 / km

WEE 3 Dixon. Wasn't really ready to start but got ushered up the speedy boarding line so was out within about 30s of arriving at the start. Promptly messed up the first control getting my direction slightly wrong. Was grand through the next couple and then lost 2 minutes at number 8 (one of the easier controls), didnt look at my compass and got the map slightly twisted so ended up at the wrong path corner. sigh. The rest of the course was fine, a little hesitant into 13 as the map was a tad dodgy, there were def more trees than the map led you to believe. But carrying on with the current theme, I just had nothing in my legs. At some point I need to rest them.

Forgotten how painful this can be

Orienteering 54:55 [4] 6.5 km (8:27 / km) +200m 7:19 / km

Spring Cup 3, Slieve Croob. Gorgeous day to be out in the mountains, I really enjoyed the course. One wobble to 2 where I banana-ed in via 7, probably lost a couple of minutes. I just had nothing in the tank so was wandering up the hills and hobbling across them. I could see MarkP in front of me but just couldn't catch him.

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 0.8 km (6:15 / km)

Running hills 51:46 [4] 6.06 km (8:33 / km) +500m 6:03 / km

H&D Rocky, route takes in Rocky, Tornamrock, Pierce's Castle and Altataggart (nicked from Susan). Rocky was very steep and very crowded, kept getting passed by a girl who would then constantly throw her elbows out, which happened to be at nose height due to hands on knees climbing. Worked hard to pass her up the top of Rocky and dropped her on the way down to the saddle. Was worried about hitting Tornamrock within 25 mins, but I was ok, went through in 22.30ish. Caught a few people on the flatish run over to Pierce's Castle and spent the rest of the race trying to stay in front of them. Underfoot was lovely, everything was so dry there was no slipping and sliding, even through the peat hags section!

Strength and Conditioning (Tribal ) 1:00:00 [3]

Tough class. Was loving the glute bridge on a wobble board. Oh and the rope slams, such a good stress reliever. Thankfully with very little running, legs are still shattered but with O tomorrow and H&D on Thurs they aren't getting a rest anytime soon.

Short warm up - 2 laps really isn't enough

Running intervals 26:52 [5] 6.69 km (4:01 / km)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 6

4 down to 2 in 15s intervals. Had absolutely nothing in the tank tonight so I wasn't surprised to be lapping 96s-102s. Very warm out. I quite liked it! John mixed up the rest tonight (usually half for this session) but instead we had 4 mins after the first rep, the next 3 had 3 mins, then 3 x 2 mins and the last 2 had 1 min. Not sure if it was cos of the heat or he just fancied a change.

Various warm up / downs

Orienteering race 20:11 [5] 3.24 km (6:14 / km) +20m 6:03 / km

NI Sprint Champs. 3rd Overall. 1st NI.

Legs felt absolutely dead right from the start. Started fine although got a bit confused running towards the un-mapped water trough right beside number 2. Banana-ed and a bit hesitant into 4 and then very hesitant into 5. Absolutely fine getting into the maze at 6 but took the wrong exit route and then stupidly carried on on that line and ended up taking the longest route possible to 7. 9-13 were grand although my legs were really starting to suffer. 14 I tried to shortcut through the rough open, it wasn't worth it, the path would have been faster. Hesitant onto 15 and went to 16 via a bonus control at the fence. 17 - finish were fine I was just getting slower and slower, Niamh went past me on the way to 18 and I tried to go with her, but failed miserably.

Orienteering race 39:55 [4] 5.86 km (6:49 / km) +50m 6:32 / km

NI Middle Champs. 3rd Overall. 1st NI

Navigation here was mainly good. Lost a chunk of time to 5 not realising that the fences were now cross-able and so I ran round to the gate (45s). Lost a bit of time to 9 since I didn't see it and headed off towards 10 until I saw Susan and Maria both cross the bridge, then I twigged and had to play catch up again. Poor route to 12, should have contoured (and not overshot) rather than up and onto the path. 14 was back on the un-mapped feature of number 2 on the sprint but this time it was on the map(???). Number 15 beeped (or at least the SIAC did) but it didnt seem to register when I got to download, by the time mum go to it neither the SIAC or control beeped when she punched. Thankfully they just re-instated us, maybe the battery just died in the control.
