Up at Guthega and decided to do Andy’s Mt Tate in the snow with JP. Nearly didn’t do it as didn’t have a compass but then found an emergency keyring compass in my pack so gave me confidence to go. Weather quite ok but cold for first part up guthega trig and round to the saddle. Didn’t take a very good route cutting corner of saddle and had a bit of a battle getting through the snow and tussock grass. Once got higher in the main range the grass was nicer and snow was covering everything but wind was very cold and stopped to put another jacket on and eat something. As we got up close to Tate it became a complete whiteout and very cold. We huddled in next to a rock while I got the compass out and looked at the map. We were next to a big rocky outcrop that I though might be the top but my fingers were numb even in gloves so we headed south to get down. Picked up what looked like the trail on the main range under the snow but then veered off to the ridge we wanted. Relieved to get down into a gully where it was possible to see a bit more and worked out where we were. Gave JP the map and compass as my fingers on one hand were totally numb and spent a while trying to get some feeling back into them. Had another snack before we got down to the snowy river and then followed the track back to guthega from the suspension bridge.

Lunchtime tempo loop on bike paths. Did about 10k starting at 4.30perkm and then picking up pace to about 3.30

6x1k along the bike path down to O’Connor from work. Bit of a mix of uphill and downhill and times varied from 3.15 to 3.45.

At bloc haus with TW and JP, got a few I hadn’t been able to do last week which is satisfying. Had a beer afterwards.

Had all sorts of plans for some good training today but was a bit hopeless in the morning and ended up doing a 30min run just before dark. Picked up the pace during the run to get some bang for buck out of the 30min and got a Strava segment as a bonus.
