orienteering race 54:30 [4] *** 5.4 km (10:06 / km)
28c weight:164lbs

Live Oaks Career Campus. A fairly clean "run", although my pace felt like a plodding jogger. Definitely need to get more running training! Navigationally pretty clean, except blew about two minutes on 15 and maybe 15-20 seconds on 25. A runner's course; Aragorn and Mintore kicked my butt by 25% and would have been joined by Gheoghie, had he not mispunched. That's not a criticism of course setter cedarcreek - he made it as interesting and challenging as possible, but there is just so much open fast running on this map.

Warm up and cool down, about 5 minutes each.

orienteering 27:50 [4] *** 2.8 km (9:56 / km)
14c shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX

Ran the yellow course that the kids ran yesterday at Mounds. Should have been 24:50 but I actually made a 3 minute mistake over-running a control!

orienteering 55:00 [2] **
14c weight:165lbs shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX

Flagging 14 controls at Mounds SRA for Union County practice. 2.8 km yellow course, marked only with pink streamer tapes. Upon finishing, the kids had to recite the story which revealed itself a word or two at a time on the tapes.

trail running 10:00 [2]
shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX

Warm up jog from parking lot to start with the kids; back to the cars, and a little other back and forth.

Practice today - only 9 kids present - 8 middle school and 1 high school.

Kids did a 2.8 km yellow course. Each control had a pink tape with the control number and one or more words that contributed to a story. Upon completion, the finisher needed to recite the complete story.

The story...

Prologue: "One day I went orienteering and ..."

1 I
2 heard a
3 gigantic
4 monster
5 crashing
6 in the trees.
7 I thought
8 it must be
9 a Bigfoot!
10 Then I saw
11 it was
12 really
13 only
14 (insert name of your favorite orienteer)

The guilty course setter declines to disclose the actual person named on control 14. Suffice to say it generated lots of laughs from the team.

weights / strength 40:00 [3]

Chainsaw!!! Cut a few trees that had fallen across trails into manageable lengths for Jordan and Skyler to drag out of the way. Also directed a number of random acts of violence at honeysuckle bushes that had dared to encroach on said trails.
