NAOC Long. Same thick woods, same rough footing, but a lot more opportunities to run trails. Even though trail routes were sometimes much longer, they were safer and faster.

Pretty clean run except for the cataclysmic mistake of mispunching control 1. And didn't realize until after I finished. Enough said.

Finger still aches, ankle still hurts a little. Unintentionally startled Matej with a loud yelp when I jammed the ankle with a hard landing. (sorry, dude).

walking 1:00:00 [1]

Central Ottawa. Visited Parliament, National Gallery, etc with starlight, runner99, and bugaboospire.

NAOC Middle Distance. Subtle contours, rough uneven footing, generally medium to low visibility through the woods. Mostly pretty clean, but one real bomb that I had to attack the control 3 times, which cost me 4 to 5 minutes. Felt like forever.

Did a superman on an ankle high wire fence going to number 3, OUCH!, then had to spend another 10 or 15 seconds extracting my leg from the fence (again felt like forever).

Crossing a beaver dam on the 10-11 leg, I looked across the pond at the guy (not The Guy :-) who was taking pictures from a knoll on the far side, smiled for the camera, and promptly did another face plant, jamming a finger in the process. It was numb for quite a while but is beginning to feel better now. Further along the same leg, I did a really fine roll of my left ankle, which left me thrashing on the ground. Had to take things pretty gingerly for a ways, but managed to pick it up a bit for the last few controls.

Walking in the middle / long model area. Probably would have elected not to do this at all, and just rest the ankle, but runner99, starlight, and bugaboospire all wanted to get in some more practice, so I just did an easy walk, mostly on trail, while they went out for some more serious training. Interesting area with very abundant wildlife, and I was moving slowly enough to enjoy the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks, in a really beautiful piece of forest.
