Abbreviated version of ICO's "Conquer the Crossroads" Rogaine at Deam Lake SRA and Clark State Forest. Between logging and downed trees and lots and lots of greenbriar, it was a pretty physical day. I got all but 9 of the controls but between a sore foot and general out-of-shapeness, decided not to push for the whole 12 hours. Thanks to course setter Frank Baukert for a fun course and especially thanks for not sending us into the tornado devastated area north of Bartle Knob Rd. impressive amount of damage.
At one point going along a county road, I got chased by a pit bull. When he started to get close, I stopped and turned on him, roaring an authoritative "STAY" and he skidded to a stop. After a few seconds of uncertain pause, he walked to the side of the road, raised his leg on a bush, then turned and trotted back home. I guess he was saying something like "ok we'll call it a draw, but don't come back". I turned the other way, walked a few steps, and once I was sure he wasn't coming back, settled back into a jog. Glad I didn't have to go back that road again later.
