wrenched my knee chasing 3 yr. old yesterday. ironic, because i had just been ruminating how people give up too fast on the ability of their body to adjust. So here was a good opportunity to go for it and listen to my body at the same time.
Wore a knee brace, and brought bike in case in didnt work out. But it was fine running, only a twinge or two walking for some reason. Castlewood valley short loop.
to garden. very slow start, pretty tired from a 1500 that entailed lots of driving, hotel chemicals (camp next time) and waiting around, but after garden work strong on the short line home on the roads.
Sr. olympics 1500 in Springfield, drove up day before. After long waits for jumpers and throwers to finish and extra heats in the race walk, it was pretty warm....why do these track meets have to squander the precious morning coolness...WELL minor gripes aside this was a really FUN race:
it was a separate heat for 65+, and surprisingly there were 4 of us together up front after 300. It was a little bit slower than my target race pace, but I thought it was so cool that we could actually race together rather than string out all over the place that I made a conscious decision just to run with these guys and see what happens, and tucked in at the back of the group. And so we ran...after 3 laps one of the four had fallen back, and the front guy surged a couple of times and w 200 to go there were just me and him. At the bend I swung around him and we were head to head on the straightway, I'd pull up nextto him, he'd surge a little and I came back. I was strong at the last surge to the line for the win. So much fun to race a 'real' race like in college or pros where people are together til the end. I don't even know our finishing time, likely something like 6:20 mile pace, but it doesnt matter for once!!!
