running tempo 1:13:00

Finally got out into the drizzle and wind. Goal was a tempo run, but the gravel track by River Des Peres had a stiff north wind, and there was a meet at the track, so I ran around the soggy grass of Francis Park 20 minutes. Not that pretty, and hard to tell pace because of several variables, but at least I got the workout in.

Noticed I was breathing every third step for most of the tempo, every second step towards the end, and every fourth step running on the gravel track with a tailwind afterwards.

running 1:00:00

to francis park, 7 x 300 equivalent @ 55sec (the main row of trees) and jog/walk rest. Including drills because most of it was running type stuff anyway.

biking 40:00 [2]

with trailer, hauling buckets of mulch short distance to community garden south, and a couple of errands.

Note

I just hope the air is passable tommorow am so I can do my workout, or I'm going have to start seriously contemplating a major change in location.
I mean, I love it in St. Louis, friends, sometime family, sub-communities, clients, its all here....but its ridiculous to live somewhere where your choice as a late-middleage person who needs to husband their health and energy resources is to not run, or run in unhealthy conditions.

running 1:03:00

to track and back, 4 x 800 @ 3:20 or so. hot and humid, tried to run relaxed like yesterday but a little harder @ this speed. This is the ramp-up to a stout speedwork regimen with times geared to a sub-20 5k. Can't happen if you dont give it a shot.

Did 4 instead of 5 because of the iffy air quality, supposed to get better in a couple of days so hopefully will hit it harder then.

Not sure what intensity to call this, maybe 'I can't believe its a '2''. You see, the air quality is borderline miserable, so in order to not drive the air deep in my lungs, I tried running really efficiently and keeping my breathing very relaxed. And guess what - I was moving just as fast as usual but with a lot less effort. One of those 'aha' moments.

errands. stop sign, accelerate, squeek. stop sign, accelerate, squeek.

running 26:00 [2]

wilmore park - kept waiting for air to get better, then went anyway about 6:30 pm but soft pedaled it. Felt dizzy and blurry vision. Guess its time to switch to early am summer schedule.
