paddling 15:00 [2]

Workout on the paddling and liquid medium simulator (PALSMS) - i.e. raking leaves with yard rake. Began and ended with reps of paddling motion with 10# linear weight (double hung window weight). Packed leaves in bin by stepping on them, compacted at least 5 times from normal leaf bag state.

I started to do the neighbors yard too, since mine is so small, but then stopped thinking they need the exercise more than i do. And they do. Hopefully they will forego the gasoline-powered leaf blower for the healthier alternative.

Note

33 degrees - very cold for biking or....above freezing? - all depends on how you look at it.

biking 40:00 [3]

on cross bike to nursing home. heavy lake winter shoes = toasty toes.
heavy lake winter shoes + saddlebags of groceries + headwind = weight training

walking 50:00 [1]

Never logged this before, but I always feel tired after these mornings, so its going on my training radar. Pushing the folks in wheelchairs thru the halls of the nursing home.

running 30:00 [3]

run to wilmore park. did a few '10-second' hill repeats to see how they were. I could see how they would be confidence inspiring. Felt like i would need my spikes to go full speed, grass w/ leaf litter a liitle slippery.
Caught the 'sunset' at 4 pm! Shorts and t-shirt, didn't realize how cold and windy it was (even tho temp is supposed to be 52) till i got home and started sweating.

biking 1:55:00

ride mb to bus stop - looked down at watch, was late so had to hitail it, bus was starting to pull out just as i came in. then access road to chubb, castlewood south, ford river same place as last week - same water level, easier because i knew exactly what to expect, then met up w/ matt and bill. did some mb o for warmup, then headed for cedar bluff trail, but i had threaded pedal in wrong, and it stripped the threads so.....

running 35:00

i had a great run on cedar bluff trail, while the others mb'd the loop in the other direction. With backpack from river narrows, then w/o pack on CB loop, then w/ pack back to river narrows. Apparently running beats mountain biking??? unless they had a flat or something.

Best i've felt running since my run training tapered off.

Rode back to parking lot one pedaled, probably best not to mention flip off 5' cliff or people wont want me on their AR teams. Matt gave me a ride to bike shop. thanks Matt.

biking 30:00 [3]

brisk ride (w/ loop in park) back home on cross bike w/ new handlebar.

biking 40:00 [2]

shorts and t-shirt to nursing home

biking 1:20:00 [2]

To meeting in brentwood in pouring rain. then to whole foods. I loaded up the saddle bags, rolled to the stop light, and...noticed my handlebar was almost completely cracked thru at the stem. Ride home was rather slow. Extremely happy i did not notice this at the bottom of a steep hill with a sharp left turn. It was hanging on by a thread, but i could still use the brake. It finally seperated and fell off at the final brake in front of my house!

For people with bikes that are not cross bikes that have been crashed dozens of times: hopefully important bike parts will not crack in half for you.

biking race 1:20:00

Finally a race I completed without mishap. (well, sort of) The Mighty 'C' cyclocross at Jefferson Barracks, beautiful warm day, much unlike cross season. Went out fast in front to avoid logjams, then settled back, let a bunch of people pass me, then started passing them back in the second lap, then a DEER lunged out of the underbush adjacent to the course, and crashed into my friend Rich just ahead of me. Stopped to make sure he was allright, meanwhile all the people I had just passed went by again. After that things settled down! Nice fast flowy course sharing some of the cross country course track. Got some of the places back, ended up 8th out of 24.
