had to slot in the good weather, even tho i dont feel that great. w/ busses out to green rock - rockwoods trail end, even so woods was tough on the way back

to greensfelder border and back. had a sandwich while running the last 5 minutes out, so back was faster, even though my lungs were burning. whats up w that???

old pure grits were somewhat better on the slimy stuff, but slipped a tiny bit on leaves each step

w/ busses to cliff cave. on the way back i sat on the bus for an hour rather than ride a few minutes. just so tired all of a sudden, didnt feel like getting moving again.

orienteering 1:10:00 [2]

cliff cave - noticed a couple of things

- my perception of how the map should be oriented vs. what it really is was almost 90 degrees off. somewhere in the past, i imprinted a different orientation to the park - no wonder i have trouble there. i focused on always correcting, this is not west this is north. maybe i can get away from preconceptions and read whats there

GORC guy once told me he was leaf blowing so the leaves would not trap water and erode the trail...total BS as far as i could tell. the new leafless trails were a slimy mess, but the old trails w/ leaf cover were just fine.

-new pure grits w tinywaffles not good in slick mud, old ones w big widely spaced lugs better

at base of chubb i discovered running shoes had not been repacked when i put in present. so ran in bike shoes off trail (thx to ek reminder) cleats were sort of like crampons and still clipped in at the end of the run. salvaged some of the day.

and change. rather pedestrian run tempered by near (non-insulated lodge room walls and a neighbor w a loud and persistent TV habit) and long range (flu) exhaustion, still good enough for 1st 60-65. So many good achievements by so many strong runners, honor to be a part of that.

thought a cx race would be a low stress fun way to get a tempo workout...and was all packed to go. but slow start and one day license rules meant i would be racing 4's and that didn't seem appealing, esp. in combo w a slicked down greasy racing surface. would rather be racing at the tail end of the masters or 3's, in my own zone.

hhitched up the trailer and rode to city greens and back. a little cold on the way there, better warmed up on way back. lost one handwarmer there, but didnt need it anymore anyway. (when do i not lose something - somebody could get rich just following me around)

groceries from schnucks - i didnt have a stop sign, but the car coming from the left did. trouble was they weren't stopping. instinctively laid my bike down. turns out the car was able to stop about 2/3 thru the intersection, so probably could have got by, but if not, at least i wasnt getting smashed -as it was, only my groceries were smashed, i was down out of the way, but the bike skittered across the intersection in front of me

to grocery - this is a trip i should have skipped. had to change a pinch flat (hit a biag sharp rock) with stone chips from the path instead of tire levers because somebody (me) had raided the pack w/o replacing them
