supposed to be 8 x 1200 @ 5:21 w/ 30 sec rest, a modest enough goal. But i was having a hard time meeting even that, even after i split the 8 reps into 2 sets. 517 (the only one on pace),524,529,531 5 min.break 529,528,529,531

Honestly, I am not feeling good about my training. Its not because I'm not fit i suppose, because earlier this spring i had a 4 min pr at castlwood cup. But a couple of viruses and a weird spring later, I feel sodden and unenthused - I am not meeting the times i should be, and I feel like i'm just going through the motions at this point.

Any suggestions out there?

funny how fast the time goes when your on the phone with somebody. didn't matter that i was just jogging from living room to bedroom and back, over and over again. that and 3/4 loaf of raisin bread and some chocolate has me chomping at the bit for tommorrows run.

6 laps @ 10:53 tad slow
2 min rest
6 laps @ 10:44, didnt really work harder, just warmed up and relaxed

80 min easy - back home to refuel
then cemetery hills, gravel track and some REALLY easy
piddling at the track

9 laps @ 16:51 - even accounting for track dimensions, this was at least 3 seconds slow per lap, but i was exploring new territory and just glad to finish

14 min cooldown

'long way around' to friends house w/ 3 short strides up a hill at the end, feeling pretty decrepit. shingles is weird - phantom earaches, places that feel like sores only theres nothing there, bla bla.

Ran to track AFTER having checked schedule, nothing scheduled but when i got there - another soccer game. So, to Francis to do 20min tempo, 10 easy, 20 tempo. No way I would be able to meet formulated pace on the rolling muddy path of Francis so I went by effort. Felt about right, especially at the very end! Clock time was slightly over 7:30/mile, did 2 1/4 laps each run.

up to the garden a couple of times.

neck feels like a snake bit me, but the worst part of the shingles is that all my questionable areas ache - sore knees, weird wrist sprain, hip joints, sprained ankle (most troubling). But some aspirin and chocolate and a warmup jog later, running some 200's seemed like just the ticket. track was blocked by soccer game, so ran tree allee along water feature in Francis Park.

15 x 200? on grass, with 1:30-2 min jog rest, high to mid forties start, down to low to mid forties finish. had to catch breath after each one, but it was the best i could do.

from house up river des peres thru maplewood thru some nice little single track on the western edge of forest park to Barnes complex to see doc about shingles. yup, its shingles. what are best buddy docs for? except for one little stretch where i caught the bus just when i was getting sick of running the roads - and saved the transfer for the return. about 8:45/mile, easy 3, a good bit of uphill and runnning in awkward tree lawns etc.

don't know what it is about these 'easy' runs, but they aint easy.

tempo segments w/ 3 min rest: 15 min, 12 min,(3 min short) 7 min. (3 min short) Prob. too soon after race - fell short of tempo times called for by JD, but i'd rather be too eager and fail, than reluctant and succeed. Also, Bishop Dubourg class came out on track just as i was going to do my middle segment, so i ran it out to Francis Park - all segments were mostly on rolling grass terrain.

Quivering quads half marathon @Cuivre river. According to my castlewood cup time of 2 weeks ago, I should have been able to break 2 hours 'easily' but it was not to be. Maybe too close to CC, with 2 weeks of flu filling the interim.

Turned same ankle at mile 11 that i turned new years. not as bad this time.
