Wednesday Nov 14, 2012 #

walking 15:00 [1]

early morning, fav time to get moving. as tempting as it was to run, need to give it another day at least.

biking 2:20:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (1:30:00 @3) + (20:00 @4)

ride just for sake of ride, do anything ride, cross bike with cross tires - jb (some cx country course), cliff cave, 4 x up cliff cave paved hill, loop on singletrack (new gorc trails are very untechnical, still, the tires were pumped up enough to make for cautious going) then back way out of park on Susan road back to telegraph, etc.

Tuesday Nov 13, 2012 #

biking 15:00 [1]

misc. - going by pain/soreness indicators, quad strain is still prominent but cleared for moderate biking. Whew - kind of surprised at how fast its healing.

biking 1:30:00 intensity: (45:00 @2) + (45:00 @3)

jobsite in maplewood, then rei/wf/tj. pulling trailer. lots of d-tours for construction

Monday Nov 12, 2012 #

Note

taking the morning off to monitor the left upper quad and make sure it doesnt become continuing problem.

biking 20:00 [2]

bank, store, then started out on site visit, but noticed a thunk every time front wheel turned. decided I wasn't really all that keen on riding anyway, so turned back. wheel is out of true but the thunk seems to be where I patched in a piece of inner tube where I had to cut the rim tape out where it got all bunched up.

running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

warming up for the Castlewood skippo trail runs.

running 53:12 [5]

Hard to get an intensity 5 out of a beat up body but we'll follow the convention. I did the 10k, which turned out to be a very good choice, because my legs were still sore to begin with and felt likesomebody had smacked my thighs with a baseball bat afterwards - and it kept getting warmer and warmer -its now 78 degrees!

Got 1st in my age group (no real competition though, would have been 2nd in 50-59) and 22nd overall out of 240- I'll consider that 'pretty good considering'. My trail running nemesis Keith T. passed me on his way to a 20k 3rd place 50-59. My 20k time in 2010 would have beat him, and first and second too. Oh,oh. Maybe i AM slowing down????

splits
1. 7:02, flat and mostly paved
2. 7:34 flat, sandy and dirt trail
3. 10:11, climbing the steps
4. 9:31 hilly trail
5. 9:21 hilly trial
6. 8:30 downhill and flat, fatigued!

biking 1:10:00 [2]

to and from bus. now I need to rest my legs or else.

running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

running race 1:47:00 [3]

SL track club 1/2 marathon. At 60+ I'm getting used to these days where everything starts going backwards, but that doesn't make it any more pleasant. It was still almost dark, cold, and the pavement was hard. After a couple of quite moderate miles I realized I was never going to really warm up and that my legs were unhappy running on pavement. After that, it was just a matter of trying to hang in there and finish, and say prayers for the constant stream of runners passing me.

Every one of my training runs has been run faster with better form (well, except for the bricks), and been more enjoyable.
