biking warm up/down 15:00 [3]

pre-race

biking race (cyclocross race) 40:00 [5]

New course at Bellefontaine, saw Eric and Anna on the run!, course was more interesting than the last race here, third course in three weeks that has been really well designed. Next week is the 'state championship' at Hermann, then there a couple more races, one in Washington, and one at Concordia Seminary.

My usual slow start and then gradually building momentum, catching people towards the end... I would say 'if the race had only been 1/2 hour longer, I would have caught a lot more people' but then I was also experiencing the onset of some cramping in my calves, so who knows?

running 16:00 [3]

after the cross race, ran a 'brick' around the park.

biking 17:00 [3]

a fast trip up the gravel trail to dierbergs. the return trip took another form, since i had locked up my bike, but brought the wrong key. Time to put both keys on both rings - duh.

running 8:00 [3]

From dierbergs with pack loaded with cabbage, potatoes and multi-grain rolls, to friends house to pick up car, get keys, liberate bike, return car and ride home!

biking 1:45:00 intensity: (45:00 @2) + (1:00:00 @3)

With trailer, drop off fruit basket at doctors office in west end, then tool around west end, bought a book and some bread, then to clients house in north st. louis by 70. north st. louis is not so big, up taylor it just took 15 minutes to get all the way to 70, its just made bigger by all the hype.

Of course, it started pouring just as i got there and had to do my measuring and riding home in the rain. Not so bad without rain gear at this temp, but 10 degrees colder would have been killer. I did have a rain jacket.

to clients office by soulard market. since the wind was blowing the exhaust away, I took Gravois as the most direct route, 25 minutes. I beat out the bus by a good margin, and thanks to the stop lights, kept pace with the cars for most of the distance. Then back via Pestalozzi, Tower grove park. Most of it was borderline or high tempo, accelarations from stop lights and stop signs, except for the navigation in side streets/cool down at the ends.

biking warm up/down 20:00 [3]

biking race (cyclocross race) 45:00 [5]

Cyclocross at winery, top of hill views of missouri river, nice weather. really tough course with a lot of off camber, boggy stretches, climbs. did not feel good, may have some sort o' bug flying under the radar. Dave F., Eric, the Sonas, and I think Doug N.,Ken DeBeer spectating, from the orienteering world.

I'm beating myself up for walking the steep hill a few times (for instance). I'm supposed to be a runner. What's the point of doing races if I don't give it all? It can be done, at 57 it just means turning myself inside out, and thats what i'm taking away from this race.

Here's a video of part of the Singlespeed/C race, and a rather spectacular crash. Everybody was ok. The video shows mostly downhill portions, so doesn't give a good feel for the climbing.

nothing like a job to get you out the door. To u city to meet prospective client, then to whole foods, shopping, back w/ full trailer. rain not hard enough to be really annoying, temperature not cold enough to be miserable, so all in all, not bad. Just wore a lightweight longsleeve base layer, and a rain jacket. trousers over cycling shorts.

biking 30:00 [3]

scrabble - surges and spins on the way back.

to metrolink to race, warmup at race, then a bit around race to spectate and back

biking race (cyclocross race) 45:00 [5]

good race, great course. felt very beat-up coming into it, but pumped by the end. entered in single speed, which was actually a good choice for me, since there was quite a bit of mud, and climbing and twisty stuff where i would have kept it in a very high gear anyway (typical for me). I was in 39/25 the whole time. I missed acceleration in a couple of spots, but it didn't set me back too much, and with my sore legs, i welcomed the opportunities to coast a bit.

Saturday Nov 14, 2009 #

running race 55:12 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (45:12 @4)

Trail race at Castlewood. 45:26 for 5.3 miles. Sucky race for me, not feeling on form, fell trying to pass one guy (who had donated a kidney 3 years ago and was the 'top organ donor finisher'), walked 30 seconds on each of the 2 major climbs when I had told myself I would SPRINT them, and true to form died a few hundred meters from the finish line (but recovered enuff to stave off top woman finisher, my usual nemesis)

But it was cool seeing the organ donors and recipients getting their awards, and I talked to the guy who beat me out of 1st 50-59. He's 54 and goes to national senior olympics as a competive race walker. He said his best 5k race walk is 21 min. - about what i have run!

yoga 10:00 [1]

biking 20:00 [3]

biking warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Had to drop my father at the airport and the race was near by (would have been if I had had a map or better directions). I didn't realize till later that I probably would have made it to the O meet if I had gone straight there from the airport.

biking race 45:00 [4]

Cyclocross race in Bellefontaine Neighbors park in north county. Never felt like i was foaming at the mouth or redlining it, maybe because I forgot my usual pre-and-during race chocolate soy buzz... I did back off a bit here and there after minor surges, but generally kept a steady pace and built on that. Maybe being 'cool' about racing is the key, I did a bit better than previous times, 32 out of 50, big field - some of those were single speeders, but it was not very hilly. A big plus: not crashing - did NOT want to crash on my sore neck.

Saw that Eric took first in the run results!
