biking 40:00 [2]

Note

1 hour walking

Sunday Apr 26, 2009 #

running 18:00 [2]

Over it, pretty much, now to ease back into training.
Maybe one of these days I'll be dressed up AND have a place to go.

biking 15:00 [2]

taking stuff to recycling in park - good as excuse as any

Saturday Apr 25, 2009 #

Note
(sick)

sorry to miss one of the best meets of the year, but decided to sit out rather than risk getting other people sick and running it into the ground.

Friday Apr 24, 2009 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Still getting through this cold.

Thursday Apr 23, 2009 #

Note

rest day. also sore throat, hopefully allergies or something

Wednesday Apr 22, 2009 #

biking 1:05:00 intensity: (45:00 @2) + (20:00 @3)

great weather - why would anyone want to drive a car at all, unless it was really really the only way?
whole foods run - feeling a bit run down, so took it easy.

biking 1:30:00 intensity: (45:00 @2) + (45:00 @3)

down to Cliff Cave and back. What a day! Felt like I was coming down with something but buzzed and enduring at the same time.

Wall to wall cars on Telegraph but rode on the windward side of the road both ways.

running/map reading 1:10:00 intensity: (25:00 @1) + (45:00 @2)

pre-run of cliff cave course, some walking in and out, and during to mark map. VERY green out there, literally and figuratively. Some of the map areas need to be deepened in green shading for deadfall/vine zones.

Satisfied with the course. Its kind of tough going at first and then opens up to more trail choices. It does help to pay attention to the vegetation on the map. I must say I never saw CC quite this way, seemed like a bigger park than it is:)

Monday Apr 20, 2009 #

biking intervals 1:10:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (40:00 @3) + (10:00 @4)

Started with 5 min warmup, then 6-7 'windsprints' up a hill, like 200's, then cooldown.

Then rode 'long way' (still on the way tho) to nursing home and back. At first, those sprints took a big bite out of my legs, but later a little rest and a gorgeous morning conspired for a great bit of riding.

running/map reading 50:00 [3]

Ran to wilmore park etc. reading S_F map. Never really had done this before, but it is helpful. Something I learned on AP! Need to concentrate on scale, not so much even pace counting as thinking this smidgeon on the map is 100 meters, about a football field. Football fields seem to be a good unit of measure for me.

yoga 15:00 [1]

foregot to log this from this am

Sunday Apr 19, 2009 #

walking 20:00 [1]

loosen up

biking 25:00 [2]

lunch at local harvest - raining

Saturday Apr 18, 2009 #

running/map reading 50:00 [2]

Drew convoluted loops on Wilmore Park map and concentrated on following line, but then got distracted by 'garbage O', picking up recyclable trash and running it to the recycling bins. Running anyway, why not accomplish something (however tiny and meaningless) at the same time.

Connective stuff at hip/glute hurt, but tried to be conscious of it, relax and toughen it at the same time. Ok, i don't have a clue.

yoga 15:00 [1]

biking 40:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (20:00 @3)

to nursing home, back w/ full pack of groceries

Note

1 hour walking

Thursday Apr 16, 2009 #

biking intervals 1:30:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (48:00 @3) + (22:00 @4)

to Jefferson Baracks, 3 laps w/ 3-4 minutes easy in between. 7:30, 7:11, 7:14. Faster than last time, because I went clockwise so all right turns, less wind, fewer intervals. Still not crazy fast, but better. about 21 mph, w/ some inclines that could almost be called hills except in west county.

Same workout i did the day before yesterday, only biking instead of running, and much more 'warmup/cooldown'.

Note

Wow - that workout took me way by surprise! Knocked me out, even though it didn't feel so bad when i was doing it.

Wednesday Apr 15, 2009 #

biking 1:05:00 intensity: (35:00 @2) + (30:00 @3)

10 minute warmup each way to pavilion at wilmore, then 3 x mile @ 8:25 (map reading), 8:10, 8:10 w/ 4 min. rest. rolling, soggy grass. hip twinge.

Sunday Apr 12, 2009 #

biking 3:00:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @2) + (1:30:00 @3) + (30:00 @4)

Out to Fenton hills and back as a tuneup for a friend who is racing next weekend, stopped by fathers on way back.

biking 12:00 [2]

friends for easter brunch - great timing after long bike ride.

Note

Slooooow walking at the Botanical Garden w/ family members. Legs were not happy, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

walking 20:00 [1]

to easter vigil. only one out walking. its scary when i can distinguish myself and showcase my athletic superiority by walking a few blocks.

Oh, I guess we can run half-marathons and 5k's, but go more than a block in the hood without driving? Too difficult.

Friday Apr 10, 2009 #

running 45:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (30:00 @3)

warmup to bus, then from nursing home new route thru former kenrick cine, back of seminary

walking 45:00 [1]

walking in nursing home, its adding up and is working at my endurance

Thursday Apr 9, 2009 #

biking 1:20:00 [2]

to bosu, then to studio of accomplished glass and mosaic artist via forest park, bike shop, more forest park.

core work 15:00 [1]

biking 1:19:00 intensity: (28:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (31:00 @4)

5 lap intervals at Carondolet, 3 x 10:15. 10:30, 10:18. There was a huge gusting wind from the ne/nw/??? so I don't know what that did to my times. I know my limitations, but I think I'm latching on again - for an 'old man alone in the wind'.

Tuesday Apr 7, 2009 #

biking 30:00 [2]

misc. errands

biking 35:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (20:00 @3)

spinning high revs in the park. the ducks looked happy.

Monday Apr 6, 2009 #

running 46:00 [3]

27 and 19. plan was to take bus to nursing home, run back, but the connections aren't working well, the first bus was late and the second was already gone, leaving me way out of the way. (first run) Then the usual run from chippewa along the river des peres thru wilmore on the way back -faster.

Sunday Apr 5, 2009 #

biking 1:27:00 intensity: (40:00 @3) + (47:00 @4)

To Jefferson Barracks Park direct rout down Germania wcked fast w/ a huge tailwind, then 6 laps of park road, 7:12, 7:37, 7:37, 7:54, 7:57, 7:56.
Then back via grants trail and rez.

I think what this is telling me (the fact that I didn't go longer as i had planned) is that I am slowly developing some race bike fitness back, but not nearly enough for Herman in two weeks.

Also, this is telling me I belong on a bike board not an orienteering board!:)

NOTE: Some of the later intervals were slowed by having to wait at stop signs, so I wasn't tailing off that much, but still getting a rest.

walking 25:00 [1]

Saturday Apr 4, 2009 #

biking 25:00 [2]

to highway and back to catch ride to my club bike race. Drove a wheel truck, really interesting perspective for watching a bike race. I watched the 1.2.3. Pro Women run down large part of the races ahead of them. A large number of the women got shelled in the first half of the first lap, but then a lead pack of about 8 formed, and very methodically blasted out the miles. Going up a pretty tough hill out of town, I glanced at the speedometer and thery were going UP at 20 mph, I got well teary eyed.

Wednesday Apr 1, 2009 #
