yoga 25:00 [1]

running 30:00 [3]

lull in work, so ran over to neighbors house and helped w/ yard work (my yard is too small for a lot of yardwork. and my plan is to make it look like a tiny patch of woods eventually)

yard work 45:00 [2]

raking and mulching

biking 15:00 [3]

to and from metro stop to REI w/ saddlebags awkwardly slung over my shoulder. Bolts on frame stripped, so they replaced bolts w/ thru bolts. Lost my top gear to a bolt head tho.

biking 45:00 [3]

bike to pickup place, drive to meeting in Eureka, back from drop off (fathers house)

biking 10:00 [2]

neighbors house, being out in nature weather, cool windy and some rain drops

biking 10:00 [2]

to neighbors house

paddling 45:00 [2]

Fake paddle - raking leaves to loosen up upper body for Saturday. Pathetic to be logging this, because it shows me how little honest labor i do, (though biking for transportation could be considered the equivalent of 'honest labor') but it does affect my energy level/resources, so it is useful for me to track.

Note

legs and everything else very tired, had planned to ride to trailnet demo of litespeeds and merlins but decided it prudent to desist from those materialistic impulses. shucks.

Monday Nov 26, 2007 #

biking 35:00 [2]

NH and back. Drizzle on way back, not really that bad, I was warmly dressed and not pushing or riding very long so it wasn't too hot.

walking 40:00 [1]

almost forgot this again. often its very brisk walking, rushing to get back and break the logjam of people leaving the chapel.

biking 1:30:00 [3]

to fathers house for dinner w/ alpine shop stop, and then back. pack and winter cycling boots.

biking 1:10:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (40:00 @3) + (10:00 @4)

to and from fathers house

orienteering race 3:00:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (2:00:00 @3) + (30:00 @4)

score-o at hawn. flustered start, not ready, not sure if i was running w/ Mark or seperately, was distracted and descended into black hole of orienteering again. BUT fought back, got focused and on track and ran reasonably well the second half. I am SO relieved about that - I thought i was going senile or something. Met Bill near the end, we ran together, and that helped to keep focused and energized.

biking 15:00 [2]

to friends to watch mizzou game

Friday Nov 23, 2007 #

biking 44:00 [3]

nursing home and back - not feeling very peppy. Loaded saddlebags, but decided not to go shopping.

walking 40:00 [1]

oops - forgot i was logging this, but there was a reason i didnt feel like riding to my errands. fewer wheelchairs today. felt like a Monday, definitely.

Saturday Nov 17, 2007 #

paddling 15:00 [2]

Workout on the paddling and liquid medium simulator (PALSMS) - i.e. raking leaves with yard rake. Began and ended with reps of paddling motion with 10# linear weight (double hung window weight). Packed leaves in bin by stepping on them, compacted at least 5 times from normal leaf bag state.

I started to do the neighbors yard too, since mine is so small, but then stopped thinking they need the exercise more than i do. And they do. Hopefully they will forego the gasoline-powered leaf blower for the healthier alternative.

biking 45:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (15:00 @3)

errands in neighborhood

biking 15:00 [2]

pick up movie at blockbusters

Friday Nov 16, 2007 #

Note

33 degrees - very cold for biking or....above freezing? - all depends on how you look at it.

biking 40:00 [3]

on cross bike to nursing home. heavy lake winter shoes = toasty toes.
heavy lake winter shoes + saddlebags of groceries + headwind = weight training

walking 50:00 [1]

Never logged this before, but I always feel tired after these mornings, so its going on my training radar. Pushing the folks in wheelchairs thru the halls of the nursing home.

running 30:00 [3]

run to wilmore park. did a few '10-second' hill repeats to see how they were. I could see how they would be confidence inspiring. Felt like i would need my spikes to go full speed, grass w/ leaf litter a liitle slippery.
Caught the 'sunset' at 4 pm! Shorts and t-shirt, didn't realize how cold and windy it was (even tho temp is supposed to be 52) till i got home and started sweating.

Thursday Nov 15, 2007 #

biking 10:00 [2]

recyclables to park

'weight' training 10:00 [2]

pushups, triceps, stretching, etc

Wednesday Nov 14, 2007 #

biking 1:55:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (1:20:00 @3) + (15:00 @4)

ride mb to bus stop - looked down at watch, was late so had to hitail it, bus was starting to pull out just as i came in. then access road to chubb, castlewood south, ford river same place as last week - same water level, easier because i knew exactly what to expect, then met up w/ matt and bill. did some mb o for warmup, then headed for cedar bluff trail, but i had threaded pedal in wrong, and it stripped the threads so.....

running 35:00 intensity: (15:00 @3) + (20:00 @4)

i had a great run on cedar bluff trail, while the others mb'd the loop in the other direction. With backpack from river narrows, then w/o pack on CB loop, then w/ pack back to river narrows. Apparently running beats mountain biking??? unless they had a flat or something.

Best i've felt running since my run training tapered off.

Rode back to parking lot one pedaled, probably best not to mention flip off 5' cliff or people wont want me on their AR teams. Matt gave me a ride to bike shop. thanks Matt.

biking 30:00 [3]

brisk ride (w/ loop in park) back home on cross bike w/ new handlebar.

yoga 30:00 [1]

biking 15:00 [2]

mountain bike to/from metro back from bike shop

Monday Nov 12, 2007 #

biking 40:00 [2]

shorts and t-shirt to nursing home

biking 1:20:00 [2]

To meeting in brentwood in pouring rain. then to whole foods. I loaded up the saddle bags, rolled to the stop light, and...noticed my handlebar was almost completely cracked thru at the stem. Ride home was rather slow. Extremely happy i did not notice this at the bottom of a steep hill with a sharp left turn. It was hanging on by a thread, but i could still use the brake. It finally seperated and fell off at the final brake in front of my house!

For people with bikes that are not cross bikes that have been crashed dozens of times: hopefully important bike parts will not crack in half for you.

biking race 1:20:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (15:00 @3) + (50:00 @5)

Finally a race I completed without mishap. (well, sort of) The Mighty 'C' cyclocross at Jefferson Barracks, beautiful warm day, much unlike cross season. Went out fast in front to avoid logjams, then settled back, let a bunch of people pass me, then started passing them back in the second lap, then a DEER lunged out of the underbush adjacent to the course, and crashed into my friend Rich just ahead of me. Stopped to make sure he was allright, meanwhile all the people I had just passed went by again. After that things settled down! Nice fast flowy course sharing some of the cross country course track. Got some of the places back, ended up 8th out of 24.

biking 50:00 [3]

to and from fathers house

orienteering 1:00:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (20:00 @4)

Troubling from a technical standpoint, otherwise a good time in the woods on a nice day. Right on the first 3 controls, then cannot find no. 4. Similar to what happened at St. Francois a couple of weeks ago on 6, i think. Maps are useful as rough contour only, the detail is selective or out of date and i am not processing the interface between what i see and whats on the map correctly.

I am very close but there is not enough on the map to guide me home, and i am losing contact with the basic landforms just at that critical final approach when i should be saying 'here is the correct spur, you must be halfway up so - you need to go 100m SE exactly... I even returned to 3, hugged the steep contoured terrain so as not to lose contact, and could still not find it. So DNF'd since I didnt want to hold up Mark, who wanted to get back to play frisbee!

Can anyone help or is this just between me and my brain chemicals?

yoga 15:00 [1]

biking 1:00:00 intensity: (50:00 @3) + (10:00 @4)

to dentist, then nursing home. got there early, but too late for breakfast, did some hill repeats. then shopping, with pack, didn't feel like rebolting the rack. found some fun whoop de doos along the way, steep depression like a skate park fun to cross back and forth on, and a hillside strewn w/ very large boulders (placed) to weave in and out of.

Wednesday Nov 7, 2007 #

biking 3:30:00 [3]

mountain bike to metro, express bus to i-44 and 141 park n ride, up road to chubb. to tunnel to flats to river ford (feet cold but felt invigorating rather than debilitating - water at highest came up to mid thigh)
to meet bill l. Then River Scene, Cedar, and Love with a couple of flat tires interspersed for nice breaks. Then to fathers house on bills super duper secret north passage to avoid Big Bend, misc bits to bus stop and bike shop

yoga 15:00 [1]

running 27:00 [2]

walk/run w/ pack back from metro

biking 1:15:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (15:00 @3) + (45:00 @5)

cross race and warmup. had mechanical on first lap, didnt get going again until the leaders were almost on me, so i got to ride up front for a while, eventually passed by about 6 of the leaders. rode fairly well, interesting perspective to see the race off the front.

biking 15:00 [3]

Was visualizing Ryan Halls marathon running stride, and trying to translate into cycling terms.

I ended up watching the Olympic Trials marathon after getting up at 6:30, waiting for two hours for the video feed to work, seeing the finish, and then watching the entire race from the beginning to the very end... who would think watching the last four miles of the clear winner's run could be so exciting?

Friday Nov 2, 2007 #

biking 45:00 [3]

to nursing home. cold enough to want goretex mitts and lake winter cycling shoes at start (31) even though that was a little toasty by the time i got there, and warm enough to shed jacket and gloves leaving just a couple hours later.

biking 15:00 [3]

friends house to play scrabble. noticed left leg in free spin is definetely weaker than right, mainly in hamstring where burly policeman kicked me in Taekwondo 30 years ago.

Thursday Nov 1, 2007 #

running tempo 34:15 intensity: (11:00 @2) + (23:15 @4)

Ran the Districts cross country course at Wilmore Park (5k), not racing but trying to run a even tempo. Time was 23:15, which would have placed me 18th out of 42 in the girls race, just shy of qualifying for state, and 50th out of 53 in the boys race! (boys winner ran sub 16) Actually pleased considering my run is quite out of tune, and its a rolling grass course time.

(Sub-18 to qualify for boys state, sub 22:50 girls)

biking 15:00 [4]

office depot to pick up ink cartirdges
