Last night my hips were hurting, and...I was sitting down in an easy chair!
I hope I'm not mental for doing the run today. anyway besides little tuneup runs in the park, it will be the last one in a long time.
running race 1:40:00
9 something mile trail race at Castlewood. Excellent course. Near the beginning there was the expected steep climb up Cardiac, but it became more and more rolling, for a surprisingly long distance. I warmed up, then went out hard just to stay warm, all was well until about the 7 mile mark, when i was running with AK of all people, then bocu people started passing me, in droves. I wasn't even breathing hard, my legs just could not motor. Near the end, Ken Debeer passed me, he was jogging and having a conversation with a friend!
But I ran all the uphills, put in a decent effort for the first 2/3 and suffered no major disasters. Hips are sore, but so are all the leg muscles.
To marks house and back for ride to meet, logging a 3 for the wind and the pack.
orienteering (race) 2:30:00
1st goat event - very interesting. Started running with Dave and Eric and was surprised I could hang with them for a little while - until i tried to orienteer on my own. Then had two controls that were big-time busts, the rest were ok. Dnfd after 3rd control of second loop, just didn't have it. Good training run for next weekend, and it was nice to think about orienteering. The Goat course was excellent, and allowed for a number of route selection, with the skips and the forks.
meeting last night, library, nursing home, grocery. Catch up run yersterday did major trashing of all systems, am I really going to be putting my life on hold just to 'survive' these events? Maybe I'm being too 'ambitious'.
Last ditch attempt to get ready for the running events the next 2 weekends. 10 minute warmup before bosu ball class, then after bosu, back west thru tilles park, lindenwood park(hit these as memory controls) to river des peres northeast of the metro station, and down r.d.p. thru wilmore park
Senility is when you get to the bus stop 15 minutes early because you screwed up the time, and then you get to the class late, because you forgot the class time.
funnny, its 20 degrees but I didn't feel the cold, probably more senility.
core work15:00 [2]
late to bosu ball clasz. this is an excellent class, Liz always does new things so its a voyage of discovery that always leads back to the core.
jog to bus stop, then back from chippewa bus stop along river des peres, thru wilmore and home. am adopting a 'just get thru it' gait and attitude for the upcoming longer run events.
very muddy, partly snowy icey course, with a lot of uphill running, and periodic clearing of mud from the brakes and at the bottom bracket. didnt have power in the later laps, esp. weak on the run up - should have carried the bike more to avoid muck build up. Masters race 4th out of 17, 1st in 50+
from public transit at clayton and clarkson to Babler via valley and shepard, then in the park to the cedar grove to park the bike.
Later, back to clayton and clarkson via clayton, and from metro station along river des peres home.

rehashing some of last weeks Babler controls (and looking for a missing piece of equipment)
From 6 to 7 on last weeks green course, i again went too far left and missed the trail. went back again (shred, shred) did it with compass this time, still veered left but was able to correct. talk about a mental block. weird.
My mind is full of mental blocks. For instance, I'll see a stand of cedars and assume that that is the blob of darker green on the map. The real blob is a thicket of briars(shred, shred) that is not very visible in winter.
Bosu ball - next sessions i'm moving to all ab since thats what i really need, this has a little too much 'thighmaster' in it. need my legs for other things.
