Orienteering race 58:36 [4] 8.8 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Pursue 2

Metro Score event at Swanbourne. Thought I should try for 7-8 30 pointers as getting all 10 looked out of the question. With 5 on each half of the map I decided to go East first as there were no hills for the first 3-4kms. Took the road from 106 to 110, so immediately added 250m to my target distance! From 130 went uphill to the Southern crossing, by which time I realsied I'd only be able to get two of the 30 pointers in the Western half. Probably should have left 130 out and got 121, which would also have taken me past another 10 and 20 (105 and 111). Near the Northern crossing I knew it would be tight so didn't bother with 107, but saw Juffy and his beast on the way back from it, and raced them to the finish via 115 and 103. Gained 1 bonus point with a minute and half to spare. Don't know about Juffy, but I was pretty sure he'd started a couple of minutes before me.

106-110-128-122-109-124-125-112-117-130-116-102-119-127-123-113-104-115-103.

Longest I've run in quite a while.

Road cycling 3:49:26 [3] 83.73 km (2:44 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Usual Friday group ride, but numbers totally dropped away from last week's full complement; just PP and me, although Chas eventually joined us for coffee.

Back in the city, I headed South again to check everything for next week's Metro. Looks like Cottesloe all over again - car park under the bridge has been fenced off, so people will have to park further away. Bridge works at Cranford Ave and Reynolds Road closure will delay people arriving, and finally the best route between 22 and 25 has been fenced off for drainage works. The Reynolds Rd works might affect routes between 17, 18 and 19 - don't know yet because although the big flashing signs said the road closure was to start today, it was still open when I went through around 11am.

Southerly was even stronger down the Freeway the second time, but made the ride back very enjoyable. Passed 2 frogs at high speed (me, not them) just after Canning Bridge (Lois & Rob), didn't see the others and I wasn't hanging around to ask about them.

Bassendean ride. Had to detour through Maylands as they are finally resurfacing the path between the golf club and the police complex. Probably won't be long however before the tree roots stuff the path up again.

Around the river, cool and cloudy morning with a stiff Southerly.

Running 24:29 [3] 3.86 km (6:21 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Pursue 2

Hyde Park, 3 laps including a figure 8. Slower pace to and from the park for warm-up and down. Calves ok - no tightness.

Road cycling 2:52:42 [3] 68.83 km (2:31 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Two rivers ride. In the city a group of 5 or 6 riders were waiting to cross Wellington St at the RAC, and taking up the whole traffic island so I couldn't get past even though it was safe to cross, and they waited until the pedestrian green light. They did the same again at Murray St, Hay St, and the Freeway exit - very commendable cyclist behaviour but I doubt they impressed the car drivers any more than they did me. At least they gave me a wheel to follow into the wind as far as Como when they all turned right at 30kph (without a signal!) onto the footbridge.

The rest of the ride uneventful except for the lack of muffin at The Other Side, so I made do with a croissant.
