The Rocket 5k - 1st, 18.00

Tried to run at a relaxed tempo

Out on the old railway for 1.25, then 2 x 1.25k laps of farmland, very firm and very rough and rutted, so had to work overly hard on this section, which meant the final 1.25 was also harder than it should have been, but a nice run out all the same.

Barnard Castle Urban - 2nd

http://www.clok.routegadget.co.uk/gadget/rg2/#128&...

I thought I set off a hard pace, but my splits for the first half were well down, so simply didn't have the pace to match Aidan. Second half we were evenly matched.
Looking at the map afterwards thought I had made few wrong choices but the splits suggest maybe not.

Wobbled my may to #3 and should have carried on W to #4 rather than backtracking
Then was heading to #6 instead of #5 when I caught sight of it out of the corner of my eye.
Almost made a 180 to #6 before realising.

#9 was an odd control - different I guess, only one way in and out, took some working out. Difficult to see the grey crossable walls, could have done with being a bit darker.

#11-12 felt looking at the contours going back past #10 would save some climb if being longer, there was still a big climb so felt got this one wrong but split was good
#14 similar to #12, was the South bridge quicker? Seems possibly not.

Headless chicken to #15 going two ginnels too far.
Should have gone south to #23 but didn't think it was worth the drop down to the river, but climb probably less steep to come back up. Was looking for a ginnel with an opening - went one too far

#26, didn't realise access to N-S ginnel was from the east, making the N route better
Realised just in time there wasn't a direct route to #27

Good event, and nice to have a 50odd race followed by a 30odd rather than the usual 45 min ones.
