6 PM

Running 29:50 [3] 4.0 mi (7:28 / mi) +50m 7:11 / mi

Woodlesford canal/river

Felt terrible, very weak in the legs.

Luckily Simon, Susan and Lewis were also happy to plod along.

Running 34:10 [3] 4.0 mi (8:33 / mi) +60m 8:10 / mi

Extended warm up to get some miles in
12 PM

Running 1:18:05 [3] 6.5 mi (12:01 / mi) +100m 11:28 / mi

British Middles - no idea, 1h18 and bits

A predictable comedic bad performance

Quite enjoyed it in a way, once I had dispelled any notion of even an average run

When I was in control and knew where I was, did relatively alright - 5-8, for instance.

When I didn't know where I was precisely, struggled massively, 9 and 10 for example. Have difficulty relocating and could not recognise vegetation in relation to map.

Got a tow through the road crossing and could have followed, but that would have looked ridiculous in the results and I'm not happy just following anyway.

All sorts of wrong to #24, came out of #23 wrong way, went down wrong path, was probably in the right place to begin with, but faffed around before finding control buried on its side in mud.

God loves a trier...
2 PM

Running 10:00 [3] 1.2 mi (8:20 / mi)

Back to Saunderton station. Goosed.

Running 12:40 [3] 1.5 mi (8:27 / mi)

To the park
9 AM

Running 18:00 [4] 3.1 mi (5:48 / mi) +30m 5:38 / mi

Rushmoor parkrun - 1st, 18.00

Fully intended to jog round as a loosener, obviously rude not to tick this one off.
Set off accordingly, but after 600m with the leaders less than 50m ahead, my competitive instincts kicked in, and decided I might as well go for it. By 1k was in 4th but the front 3 had streched out a bit, so was a bit worried I wouldn't manage it. But was in the lead by 2miles and cruised in.

Interestingly runs along the Basingstoke canal just as Frimley lodge parkrun does about 5k away to the east!

Running 8:40 [3] 1.0 mi (8:40 / mi)

Back for breakfast
11 AM

Running warm up/down 8:30 [3] 1.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Urban Orienteering 17:07 [5] 2.2 mi (7:47 / mi) +10m 7:40 / mi

British Sprint Champs Heat 1.1, mp

A great shame, and oh so frustrating.

All going well to the map turnover, had virtually caught my minute man, and (in hindsight, didn't realise at the time) turned map over, saw direction of first control, ran in that direction, punched, carried on. Busy planning ahead as simple leg.

Unfortuantely punched control on 1.2 which was in the same direction but 10m short on a tree as opposed to corner of car park.

Easy, if silly mistake to make, but a lesson learned.

Got slightly scrappy in the final third, including my biggest mistake to #21 which I read as on the far side of the bank not the near side, so uncessary climb, then clocked where I was, so hurdled fence and threw myself down slope inc. barrel roll across path at bottom. Pretty specatcular.

In hindsight missed a couple of out/backs which would have been better but at least kept moving.

One day I will make the A final!
1 PM

Running 12:30 [2] 1.4 mi (8:56 / mi)

Keeping moving
2 PM

Running 13:05 [3] 1.7 mi (7:42 / mi) +10m 7:33 / mi

C Final, 3rd.

Couldn't really motivate myself for this, and felt tired but gave it a go.

Middle section was fairly scrappy. Bad route #5-#6

Again compounded by some older clown deciding to shout at me I had climbed an uncrossable fence to the west of #6 by the fire escape (the infamous #195). I had clocked in advance it went crossable-uncrossable-crossable as it went low-high-low. But had to stop and check and shout back at this idiot he was wrong.

If you are going to shout these things you better be sure, an apology at the end would have been nice of course.

FWIW, thought it was a poorly planned leg as had people running in all directions on a narrow grass strip (at 90 degs to #10 as well), and one false move and you could fall off the tall drop anyway.

Overshot #8

Couldn't work out which of the last 4 was #15 as number was well away from circle

Was very busy last few legs which was perhaps the intention but not very enjoyable having to dodge everyone rather than navigate.
3 PM

Running 16:40 [3] 2.1 mi (7:56 / mi)

To North Camp station. Pretty bored of running for the day by now.

Urban Orienteering 15:55 [3] 2.0 mi (7:57 / mi)

Aldershot warm up event

Useful for the mind, less useful for the legs which felt terrible

Only messed up #1.

Running 8:00 [3] 0.8 mi (10:00 / mi)

To hotel avec Richard

Running 39:00 [3] 5.1 mi (7:39 / mi) +220m 6:45 / mi

Hawksworth - Odda - Burley Moor loop
Felt very heavy legged first half, perked up after that and felt good by the end, albeit downhill
Lovely evening, very clear views.

Running 31:20 [3] 3.4 mi (9:13 / mi) +300m 7:14 / mi

Bingley station to Harden Moor. Hilly! With heavy bag!

But a nice route, might come for a run here.

It was only when Chris mentioned it I realised that Keighley is slightly closer, but I imagine a steeper climb.

Orienteering race 30:15 [3] 2.5 mi (12:06 / mi) +30m 11:40 / mi

Harden Moor WEI -5th, 30.15

Never ran here before, probably a good warm up for Sunday (ha!)

First 7 were fine, but then in all the rocky stuff went a bit wrong, too low to #8 and was then in roughly right place but path a bit indistinct and control further along than map suggested.
Went too low to #9 as well but realised and corrected well.
But all over the place to #10 having exited 45 deg wrong.
Then just scrappy, esp. the last few easier controls!
7 PM

Running 15:00 [3] 2.0 mi (7:30 / mi) +10m 7:23 / mi

Down to Harden and a pint.

Running 31:30 [3] 4.3 mi (7:20 / mi) +10m 7:16 / mi

An easy double day today, didn't feel too bad along river south.
7 PM

Running 29:59 [2] 3.9 mi (7:41 / mi) +50m 7:24 / mi

Very easy back of Highroyds and perimeter loop. Lovely.

Should really get on with mapping it.
