running hills 41:36 [3]

changed up the hill intervals. run all the way up, across the top to the fence, run along the fence, and then down the hill, and then do it all again. did this 3 times which was tough, but the workout was ruined when this lady came with her four dogs not on leashes who were jumping all over me. not cool...

orienteering race 1:41:54 [5] 11.8 km (8:38 / km) +425m 7:19 / km
ahr:178 max:192

started this race off much better than the middle. nailed the first control, and the second one too, and the thirt and fourth would've been fabulous if the pits hadn't been so evasive. wasted a lot of time running around aimlessly trying to find control 3 but thankfully control 4 wasn't as bad. the crazy long leg to 7 i think i nailed route-wise. kept to the trails, ran through the field, and then right across the re-entrant and up into the control. beauty! controls 8-14 were just brutal cause basically all of them involved a lot of climb. i tried to take big humungous steps going up but even then it was tough. while running across the flat to 17, i got myself all psyched up for the really technical loop at the end, but then of course i made a mistake on 18... looking at it now, it makes so much sense where i was and where i had to go. in the future, i just have to actually stop, orient the map, and really look at it. i don't think i lost too much time on this one, but it still was a bit disheartening. finished the rest of the course mistake free except for running to the finish control. i ended up going on the wrong bearing and i was actually soooo worried that i would get totally lost going to the finish. eeek!!! corrected it just fine though and finished off the weekend with an acceptable race.
