Day 9

Note

Adding orienteering stuff to my log on Monday after I get my GPS tracks uploaded

Orienteering 10:04 [4] 2.1 km (4:48 / km) +42m 4:21 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

First race of Saturday, smooth navigation and fast running.

Orienteering 12:01 [4] 2.4 km (5:00 / km) +46m 4:34 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Mistake on one with inattentive compassing, lost a little time and was chasing people to two. Thought I was going to the right bushes from halfway through the leg and was planning ahead,, people caught up to me again because I had to correct. Another mistake to eight. Things calmed down after that. I chose to use my skip on number 17 instead of 18 because I felt like if I skipped 18, I would end up running a route that would take me by it anyway. By skipping 17, I would be able to take a better approach the big hill and avoid more climb.

Orienteering 12:32 [4] 2.5 km (5:01 / km) +40m 4:39 / km

Hiccup to four, was navigating to five but caught it as I was passing near the control, did lose a bit of time though. Time lost on 17, I entered the bush further left than I thought and lost a bit of time looking for it. Bad route choice to 20, should have stayed left then dropped in, that would have been a much quicker route. Bad approach in 21, I can't say that I could find the white patch.

Day 8

Swimming (Volleyball) 30:00 [1]

Orienteering 17:19 [4] 3.4 km (5:06 / km) +45m 4:47 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Chilly, dark night, but my navigation was pretty good. I was struggling to see the feature that 21 was on, I remember that pretty clearly. No notable mistakes.

Orienteering 15:58 [4] 3.3 km (4:50 / km) +39m 4:34 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

The GPS didn't line up very well. Navigation was good, this and the other one from today don't have my time based on punching because I don't remember those numbers. Good navigation again, I felt stronger than the first round, muscles felt looser.

Easy Run 1:17:42 [3] 16.3 km (4:46 / km) +144m 4:34 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

I'm tired and it's cold. I'm glad I took the rest day yesterday, during the run I felt very good even after the 10k mark. Felt a few hamstring and glute twitches but a cramp stayed at bay.

Nice to see Canada on Day 5. Really tough leg, I snaked my way onto the trail on the right.

It's very very snowy and icy, we'll see how the run goes...

Note

Today's should be long run and tomorrow's my rest day, but a few things have changed that.

It finally snowed and I think it's good to stay for the week. It is frigid outside. It rained all last night and the roads are absolutely covered in black ice. Driving and running are both going to be a great struggle. Coming back from California is gonna suck.

Max can't run today, but he said that he'll run a long run with me tomorrow. That sounds very nice, so I'm going to do that tomorrow. That means we're changing to a quasi-rest day today. What that means, we'll see.
