Beat my last 800 by three seconds

Easy Run 42:23 [3] 5.6 mi (7:34 / mi)

Finally! I brought a watch! I actually know my time now. And thanks for handy-dandy google earth I know just about how long I ran. What a good combination :) I originally started running with a few other track kids, but three miles into their route (total of four miles), I got bored and they were running really really slow, so at the turn back to school I decided to run down to the middle school and on a trail through the back woods of the YMCA to get an extra kilometer on my run. I need to start running alone on the long runs, it's really awkward for me because I'm a little to slow for varsity (Michael and his buddyboys) and quite a bit too fast for everyone else. What to do? Coach says I should just run with varsity, which I think too, but sometimes it's annoying when you keep up with them for the first two miles but then they start pulling away from you. I'd rather set my own pace.

Orienteering 18:00 [0] 1.8 km (10:00 / km)

I set up a course for the boy scouts, it wasn't difficult. I got breaks every time I spent time putting a control into the ground. I made a few shameful mistakes, but in my defense, the scale was unbelievably tiny. Not a workout. Just sharing how much time I wasted in the woods.

Orienteering 20:00 [3] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

1 mile total, that is. We did a sprinter's workout, lots of lunges. It didn't seem so bad when we did it but now....my butt hurts. A lot. 20 minutes is 100% guess.

Orienteering race 48:40 [5] 3.4 mi (14:19 / mi)

4th place. Way better.

Orienteering race 56:04 [5] 3.0 mi (18:41 / mi)

First day of Interscholastics, got 6th place. Good run, too many thorns though. I'm relatively okay with my performance, though I made a questionable mistake.

Easy Run 2:00:00 [4]

After jogging and warmups and all that jazz, we got started with our workout for the day, which was harder than I expected. First off, it was cold and very, very windy. Running the 100m stretch hurt my face and my muscles. We did 2 sets of 4 400m each with one lap of jogging between each one. Then we did 2 sets of 4 200m each with half a lap of jogging in between. For all the non-math majors, that's 3 miles not counting jogging, and 6 miles including the distance jogged. It was really tough stuff, I have to admit. Ab workouts, jog to school, and done. I'm pretty happy with how it went, coach just said I need to work on the motion of my arms. I'll work on that then.

Easy Run 44:00 [3] 4.75 mi (9:16 / mi)

Totally forgot my watch, don't trust the time at all. We did the reverse of what I did Monday, only this time with Varsity, so it was a little harder. I got the most massive stomach cramp in the last bit though, so I had to drop back a bit. That's okay though.

Again, time is about 0.1% trustworthy. We went to the weight room and did stuff in there for half an hour afterwards.

Easy Run race 1:03 [5] 0.4 km (2:37 / km)

Was at a meet today, I was part of the 4x400 relay. My time was 1:03, another guy got insanely fast, and the other two weren't too shabby either. We snatched third place for ourselves.

Easy Run 51:18 [2] 4.75 mi (10:48 / mi)

This was a tiny bit cringeworthy. I was running with a few of my freshman buddies, and they were taking it pretty darn slow. They struggled a lot and I feel like I got no workout out of this. Now I understand why I should run with Varsity during training. We went to the weight room afterwards, so it wasn't a completely wasted day.

Orienteering race 1:31:06 [3]

Score-O with the Minnesota Orienteering Club, got 220 out of 280 points but lost 10 because I was a little late. Good and fun.

Easy Run 6:04 [3] 1.0 mi (6:04 / mi)

Not bad. Warmed up by playing soccer with Peter for about 40 minutes, he just came back from college today :D He wanted to go in to shower, and I just bought new shoes, training and spikes, so I thought, what the heck, might as well see what my mile is today. Didn't beat 6 minutes, but I'm very, very close.

And I had to do a wide run around a dog and there was some wood lying around at the end of my mile. Oh well, sucks for me. Beating six next time, I promise (hopefully).

Easy Run race 2:28 [5] 0.5 mi (4:56 / mi)

Indoor running is hard.

Thursday Mar 12, 2015 #

Easy Run 13:20 [2] 2.0 mi (6:40 / mi)

Today was pretty loose and simple compared to yesterday. Didn't go my full speed because there's a practice meet tomorrow, but I still went a pretty decent speed. We did a quick hills practice after that, and then we were done. Nothing mind blowing really.

Easy Run long (Circuit Training) 40:00 [3] 4.46 mi (8:58 / mi)

Used Google Maps to find the distance, but it's still not 100% trustworthy.

It was a bit like Monday again. We spent almost two hours testing how high and far we could jump, how far we could throw, and how fast we could sprint. Perfect for long distance runners, right? Really shows our ability. It didn't really tire us out at all and it wasn't a good workout either. Track's supposed to get better from here on out though, right? We'll see.

The part after the track and field business was pretty good though. The long-distance met up again and we went out for a run through downtown Hudson. It was a nice workout, and once we finished I felt a nice sense of accomplishment. Didn't feel like the king of the world or anything like that, I just felt like I did something, and it felt pretty good. Tomorrow will (most likely) be the two-mile ppm. Should be fun, hope I do well (better than during my mile).

Time is a little completely inaccurate, I need to start going with a watch.

Easy Run (Track Practice) 2:30:00 [4]

Phew...that was a little more than I expected. After meeting up with the coach, we ran down to the track at an easy pace, after waiting for my friend to finish talking to the coach about absences and such. Everybody was beginning to warm up when we jogged in. Great start.

After some good technique stuff that wasn't very hard at all, most of the athletes left, save for the long distance runners. Time for some real work.
We started with a mile run, and I hit a time of 6'10. I honestly think I could have done much better than that, I feel like I didn't put enough into it. I think I should have tried to at least beat 6 minutes, but I guess next time I do the mile I'll give it more.

However, I'm also a little glad that I had a little left in me after that, as then came an acceleration workout. Ten sets of 100m, which I think I did relatively good in, and then another five sets of 200m, where a cramp took a little out of my speed when I was supposed to peak; I need to find a good way to deal with those cramps.

After that everything else was pretty basic. We jogged back to the high school, spent a little time taking a survey, then did an eight minute ab workout led by Mike. It was pretty relaxing, I think, but I had a little trouble with soreness with the scissor kicks and another movement of the sorts.

All in all, quite a solid second day of Track and Field. Personally feels like the first though, Monday wasn't much of a workout. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and how much it will help me improve! What I took away from today: I have a lot to go, and my mile pace is slow. But you know what? I have a whole season to get better, and I plan to use it to the best of my ability to get better at running. It's also great knowing that my efforts in track will rub off on my orienteering! We'll see where track takes me.

Easy Run (Really Long Warm-up) 1:40:00 [2]

Barely any running, just twice around a parking lot. Mostly just "learning how to warm up".

Saturday Mar 7, 2015 #

Misc (Futsal) 1:30:00 [4]

Time includes only the games, does not include playing/training in between, each game half hour long. There's a few events before this but I don't remember them....whoops. I'll start updating this more, no worries :)

Orienteering (Running with Mike) 1:00:00 [2]

Ran a course that Michael set, it went pretty well but I had a few troubles with the steep hills? Why? Darn headache got me today. Gave me a little trouble with the course, but I did finish it and helped Michael set a few controls after I got back. It was great fun, I thought, and I would do it again on a better day. No headache this time.
