Polly had said we would collect controls... This was an exceptionally hard 2km after sitting down for breaky.

Drive home after this, kinda wish I had slept was a bit of a struggle.

Good sleep this afternoon, back into hell week training tomorrow.... maybe.

Rogaining race (USD) 11:53:06 [4] 50.39 km (14:09 / km) +1497m 12:19 / km
33c shoes: Salomons XR Mission

USD with Polly.

We had a very good planning session, might have been a touch rush at end but generally very good.

Started at a good pace - maybe a tad fast, Polly doesn't like people being around/near and decided that running was the best way to cure that. I was not so keen of running in the dark over the terrain and sure enough was quick to find the ground 3 times and got pretty pissy/grumpy. Lagged behind abit getting my shit together as had early pain from the falls. All the same we progressed well through

26, 94, 74, 82, 105 Polly was frustrated with the 3 behind us and let them overtake so they wouldn't follow us and didn't have to listen to the person behind talking. In fairness they did get a few point that we found. (might have been 103 we let them in front)
73, 85, 103, 75, 65 - all reasonable but behind schedule by about 20+ minutes. We also had caught the 3 guys for a bit. They headed directly to 51 and we took the road - fair bit of running here. I had got myself out of the I hate rogaining mode and got into business mode now. Over took the others at 51 tried to stealth it with no lights but they caught our packs and found the point because of us. Bit of a lead though so we tried to put some ground on them to 76 on to find the electric fence on Pinjarra Williams road, I tested it with my hand and thought, ok its on but maybe we can get around it somehow - SHOCK - really should have known better... We dicked around here for a while trying to get around the fence before a good corner post opportunity presented itself.

Over the road and into the field, along towards 76... Crap another electric fence, ok tested it - no power, AWESOME, opened up fence for Polly who got through fine. She returned the favour - but with my pack near the barbed wire I have to got lower.. and in doing so teabagged the electric wire whilst touching the fence and ZAP, "I have never seen someone move so fast through a fence" - Polly. Needless to say painful, but did provide some good entertainment for the next little while.

76, 95, 72, 71, 86, 101 Lead the 3 guys all the way but they always close enough to see what we were doing. Opportunity to lose them on 64 and I fucked my nav, pulled up short of the knoll a bit confused and they trotted past whilst I re ordinated myself. crap behind them again but Polly and I both agreed they went wrong way to 96. We went torches off, no talk, hard and fast. As we expected we saw them climbing the wrong section of hill. We went hard and fast up to the point no lights the whole way including the check point – they scanned out hill once but they must have missed out reflectors etc and turned their search elsewhere – we then slipped away down the hill and never saw them again in the night until pretty much the end when they were across the field from us.

96, 56 First big drop, 1 hr 25 behind schedule now so dropped 60,91,32,84, 46 and went direct to 106… I was low on liquids so had to conserve because it was going to be a while now. Found 1060 and was infront/on time again.
30, 50, 62 YAY water drop – Got my stuff sorted then proceeded to 92 – had to go hard and fast but got there with 1 minute on budget – perfect. Opted to go 81 instead 44 – wasn’t a popular choice in my mind but we did it anyway. Dropped a tad short of 81 then realised after a group came down the hill. Went and grabbed it and whilst on time for the leg, had fallen off course time.

On the way to 100 found a fence, electric of course… Tested wires again – nothing went to go over and WHACK the biggest shock I have ever had, felt it through whole body and in particular brain, chest, left arm. It put me down for a good bit… From then on, rolling under fences – enough electrocution for a lifetime.

Struggled a bit to find 100 but got there eventually – Now about 30 minutes behind schedule again. Had to lift – sun was coming up and a new lease on life was given. Powered along with determination. Good leg across to 66. Haha too bad electric fences this has gate… still manages to get shocked of gate somehow ffs majorly unlucky I would say
66 57 Passed ricky as we jogged on. 102 cut 43 thought about doing 61 but then once across field realised I would struggle running that distance fresh let alone now. Dropped 61. Went direct to 83

83, 54 A bit of bad nav to 54 but generally ok. Then down to 42. Looked at adding 21 had 25 mins to do about 3km. Doable but risk wasn’t worth it and we both had had enough. Pretty happy we did most of our original plan and nav had been very good. Shuffled home – bit of a jog to finish in front of a few teams coming in – just in case.

Knackered we tucked into breaky and awaited results. … 4th Overall and 2nd mixed – exceptionally happy with that result!
