Orienteering race (North Fremantle) 53:47 [5] 7.5 km (7:10 / km) +109m 6:41 / km
ahr:173 max:182 shoes: Brooks Glycerin 12

Was really nice being back in Perth and seeing people I knew at the race! makes it a much more pleasant atmosphere.

Sadly was in a scramble at the start getting myself organised and also introducing my brother to the sport and how it works. So no really time to stretch or get my head in the zone. Also confused the hell out of Craig rego - whoops.

I had seen first two controls when telling my brother how it works and before could really consider anything else we were off. I started right behind ricky and was with him for the first 2 - 2 and 1. then brain fart and went a different direction for absolutely no reason - I think it was because I was focusing on the fact I hadn't pressed lap!

by the time i fixed that mistake tonnes had passed and I settled into my cruise got to the third point and instead of pressing lap - pressed stop SIGH.

Silly past the next point I realised my error - so my time is rough guess and as is my distance - I know times pretty close distance could be out by 100 or so. Once I had made these mistakes I looked at my map and realized shit I have no plan stopped and stared at map for an eternity. recounted controls about 3 times - really wasnt in the game. Decided on south and away I went.

Started feeling ill and just all over not great after a few controls - would love to say I backed off - but there really wasn't anything to back off... sigh. The realisation of any fitness I had got in the 4 months in sydney have been stripped in the 2 months of Dec/jan over indulgence and 0 exercise. Also realised somewhere in here I had not pressed lap yet again and had to recount my punch card a few times to ensure it was right!

Messed up massively 27 to 26 - I knew what I wanted to do - I either going up the road and right or taking the path - decided on the path - ran straight past it to the beach and along - what an idiot. looped back and found the 'path' mmm k... was a rabbit's warren in there and lost time in that section.

Went along the sand/rock path to 25 and my right big toe clipped the top of a rock almost sending me face first into the ground, a lucky recovery but my toe was throbbing for rest of day. Feeling very average by now - felt sick, sore and v unfit. surprisingly legs felt strong but everything else said lets pack it in. Jogged it through to the finish along the river.

Was so not in the game when I got to the end I walked towards Craig and Rach was liek der I don't give this to them I put it on the fence - and walked away - no name no time and they said don't you want a time and I was like I have one on my watch. #brain elsewhere.

After realising I went back to put my name and time on - craig wisely watched me as I wrote down the time from my watch completely forgetting I had stopped it by accident earlier in the race... Quickly corrected I was ha!

Oh well - I had a shocker! such a shame - nice course from C/R though, would have liked to do it when was feeling in good form. Think my brother had a good time, hopefully can convince him to come back without the kids and give the long a crack. Was also a tad nostalgic today that carpark was where I learnt to drive for the first time haha!

No surprise knee is a tad sore now.

#offmygame.

Driving and walking through the northern part of the course - did 20 controls and got the course finished - now in the hands of the vetters.

Put some scratches in my bumper crossing a watercourse - whoops... also learnt how impressive my car is on steep up/down hill - a few times I was wondering if I would make it out when the turbo kicked in haha.

p.s. some of the fence gate suck ballz!

Out at Lovers Lane again setting 6hr - was feeling pretty crook but powered through.

Mainly on bike and foot but a section done in the car. got 17 controls done before I pulled out in the midday heat.

Found some cool control sites - its such a nice area just wish 6hr was in spring so it would be prettier.

Hoping to get this closed out next Saturday - should be possible.
