Note

Gosh it’s been a bad year exercise wise... I’ve run over 20 times and not once below 6min/km

I’m going running tonight and I’m not only going to fix that att I’m going to smash it or break myself trying. Bring on my 4km TT course
8 PM

Running (4km Loop) 21:44 [4] 4.02 km (5:24 / km) +29m 5:13 / km
ahr:167 max:176 shoes: ASICS GEL - Nimbus 17

Smashed it. (Juffys pace that is) also set this years fastest pace for myself. Not the fastest for my course though.

Felt like a hard run hit different barriers throughout the run - really felt breathing was labored when I was close to 5min/km so fitness isnt great... that said HR suggests I was comfortable.

Power in the legs was biggest problem but pushed through that.

Anyway happy with the result the body has got some fight left clearly!

Road Bike (Commute to work) 23:59 [3] 6.89 km (17.2 kph) +91m
ahr:142 max:167 shoes: Giro Privateer

Cruisey ride in - body feeling reasonable... see how long that lasts.
6 PM

Road Bike (Commute to Home) 19:16 [3] 6.45 km (20.1 kph) +81m
ahr:151 max:168 shoes: Giro Privateer

Took the quicker but more dangerous option of Thomas st to get home a few minutes quicker tonight. Thankfully quiet so wasnt too hairy.

ahr:169 max:182 shoes: ASICS GEL - Nimbus 17

Didn't particularly enjoy today for a number of reasons.

Knew I was not going to flog myself silly because of the back but set out at a reasonable pace - missed first control through the bushes but came in from the other side to see a massive Q formed.. no one had seen the punch lying on the ground so I grabbed it and punched - could feel Paul seething as 3rd in Q seeing me jump it. He promptly corrected that situation with a cheeky dash before the next control.

Was a conga line for the first half of the course which was reasonably frustrating - I prefer to feel like the route I am taking is unique but there really wasn't too much sensible deviation if you went west first. Had contact (sight of Paul) until 7 then spotted him leaving 18 as I was going in so was within reason of him but didnt see him again after that.

All the same, trundled along. I had seen there were 29 controls total before the start, we needed 25. There was 1 not accessible made it 28 so could drop 3. Had decided on 19/23/28 but as I went along I was '1 control up' i never understood how but meant I could drop 29 too.

As I was doing the back section 20-21-26-30 ( 26-30 leg) my gut imploded and basically felt like I wasn't going to make it back without an accident. This really came out of nowhere and had me in panicville. I slowed right down which helped a bit but was really uncomfortable.

With all this going on as I punched 30 I though mm wonders what controls not out here trying to take my mind off my stomach. but this confused me more as I was 1 up, but there are 30 controls but I only need to drop three - but there's 28 we can get too, but the sign said 29 and wtf I've run past 29 now but shit did I forget my 3 was 1923/28 oh crap. major detour back to get 29 because didn't want to be 1 short...

I recounted a number of times after that and it kept coming up the same I am 1 control over again and the best drop scenario was now within CCC.. FFS. this sprint outcrop just confused matters really. if the comment at the start was there is 30 controls. 1 is a forced drop (#2) then would have been easy ok drop 4. 19/23/28/29 - done but meh it all just got messed up along the way. Anyway, by now I could barely jog my stomach was turning bad. Got in and Ricky was on the desk he bumped my time from 1h02 to 1h14. made a comment but couldn't stand around... directly to the toilet. Relief but stomach was horrible. went and got my car keys and made a comment to Paul about the stupid controls before Emma came in to say they were waiting - had missed Fish and Chips on the beach with the family as I took too long to run. Oh well, leftovers later where... soggy... didn't eat much felt bleh.

Anyway, nice area knew it was hilly, knew it was windy - shame about the controls and stomach ruining it for me. Someone knock 12 mins off my time when it goes up (if it makes a difference - doubt it will.)

Back seems to be holding which is good!

Note

Back has gone ping yesterday and movement is stupidly painful as is breathing .... off to physiology I go for a remedial ... hopefully makes it bareable again

Legs feeling a bit sore from saturdays fatigue but generally felt pretty good - took it easy and enjoyed the ride - strangely enough ended up faster too.

Got ravaged by a mossi last night :(
5 PM

Road Bike (Commute to Home) 21:46 [2] 6.8 km (18.7 kph) +85m
ahr:140 max:162 shoes: Giro Privateer

Slow ride home - saw Wil's doppleganger. The wind was a pain in the ass as where the traffic lights.

Rogaining race (Novelty) 4:04:09 [5] 26.03 km (9:23 / km) +320m 8:50 / km
ahr:158 max:180 shoes: ASICS GEL - Nimbus 17

Novelty rogaine with Dave - Started very strong in northeast - then swung quickly back to middle up to top and cleared west Perth - Goal was to be back up to Jacobs at the 2 hours mark - I died a bit thought between 33-37 and was all downhill from there. Were 10 mins behind at Jacobs but we had done more than we expected so was ok - the goal was to be out of the park by 3hr mark.

Struggled big time up from mounts bay road and we decided to drop 109 and leave that for way back in. came out of park at 3:10 so still 10 down. put in a very optimistic route for the next part and given how much I was in the hurt locker at this point probably should have gone for less.

Finished 5 minutes late and I was beyond spent. but we kinda got what we had wanted too.

Had to leave before the results as Will was being a lil shit and I didn't have the energy to do anything about it - but apparently, the results where all over the shop scoring wise. Oh well its a novelty care factor wasnt too high was more getting out and having a crack. Underlined how unfit I am atm. Even though the pace from 2 years ago is 8:58 vs 9:23 so I think about 700m and 5 less minutes so really not too far off it!

The difference was yesterday I couldn't stomach food in the evening just felt sick and my body was destroyed all over - in bed by 9 up at 7 still feel sore/broken. Meanwhile, casual stroll for Dave :P swear his a fair bit fitter since the last time we went out even.

Also to put things in perspective:
that's the longest distance I have done on foot or bike since Feb USD. which was 34km over 8hrs - had a reasonably bad training year! < keep saying it need to do something about it!

Note

went to a lot of the SR samson line course points today - might go back and give that a try some day - was a nice area for it.
4 PM

Orienteering race (Metro - Score - Samson) 59:28 [4] 7.79 km (7:38 / km) +105m 7:09 / km
ahr:163 max:185 shoes: ASICS GEL - Nimbus 17

Score course with William

Was glad to get out as the 5pm starts I cant do - 415 was pushing it even more so because I started at 430 - but home just on 6 so not too late to pickup the nightly routine

First time I have seen William nervous about a dog (timber) - to be fair the dog is bigger than any other dog his ever met. I also knew after he saw the park at the start that he would loose his marbles whichever direction I started - so I ripped the bandaid off and went north away from everyone to his wails for the first few minutes. After which he was quite happy to chug along giving directions and chatting to himself.

Loved the setting - lots of close calls and hand i not had the pram I would have taken different routes. TBF anything up hill or into the wind is a damn side harder with it - and no having the wind behind you isnt that beneficial with the pram vs it being a head wind as the damn thing is a scoop shape.

Anyway plodded around reasonable pace. only had to leave William away from control a few times and only ever 10m or so which was good - dont particularly like doing it.

Could have gone harder but wanted to have some legs left. As it was had to finish hard and the pram in the sandy bush paths was er... fun....

Had to leave pretty promptly but enjoyed the format - 1 hr was long but doable. Felt like a good session though so happy with result - do need to get out and do some SR app testing... see how legs go!
