Orienteering race 13:07 [4] 1.41 km (9:18 / km) +41m 8:07 / km

Super fun and challenging mass start training today with all the North Americans juniors! We did four o-tervals. The first one was a mass start with everybody, the second was split about in half (faster finishers, slower finishers). The last two we started in groups of three to simulate the middle qualifier start in which you start with two other runners who have different forkings than you.

2D Rerun:

I felt really good today! I wanted one last one of these mentally challenging trainings that simulated the stress of a race to test how calm I can be in the midst of all the chaos. On the first leg I put in a lot of physical effort to keep up but I arrived almost last to the control which was discouraging. I'm proud that I was quickly able to refocus and push that crap down. The rest of the intervals felt fast and clean. My main focus (besides staying calm and in control) was to read each leg fully, and I did that! Feeling ready for the qualifier: I know what I have to do and what it feels like to do it.

The next few days will be for resting and visualizing. We'll go to the middle model on Sunday, and then race on Monday!

We all ran with maps of the area. Did a short loop down by the lake on a small trail with lots of stones and roots, dropped off our warmups at our cabins, and ran to a trail loop for the start of the workout. It's so fun to live on an orienteering map!

Running 8:00 [4] 0.95 mi (8:25 / mi) +15m 8:02 / mi

8 x 30 sec on, 30 sec off. The "ons" were supposed to be really hard and they were! We relocated on our maps during every rest. It's hard to read and interpret a map in less than 30 sec when your brain is so oxygen deprived.

Running warm up/down 10:01 [2] 0.9 mi (11:08 / mi) +8m 10:50 / mi

We found and ate some wild strawberries! Love me some natural GUs.

Last race simulation before JWOC! Everyone, girls and guys, were on a 5k course with a mass start. I'm really happy with my run. I pushed the pace in the beginning to try to keep the guys in view for as long as possible and did well reading all the detail in the middle of the course. Only error in that area was a hesitation on four and getting pulled to far to the right on eight (check out our 2D rerun here: http://3drerun.worldofo.com/index.php?id=-432891&t... ). My route choice for 10 was not the best but I wanted to keep it safe at the end. My goal for the race was to read every leg fully and I think I did 90% of the time.

Control Challenge: 498
