Running 58:15 [3] 7.09 mi (8:13 / mi)

Lots and lots of hills today. I decided to try running straight to upper campus and man, those hills are steep. I got a break in the middle by starting up chesterfield and then cutting over to darraugh, but it was still a lot of hill. Came back home through Schenley after running up through squirrel hill too. Felt pretty good though, in spite of the cold/rainy weather.

Running 51:25 [3] 6.3 mi (8:10 / mi)

I convinced Kevin to go running with me because I knew I wasn't going to motivate myself, which turned out to be a good choice. He is the best running buddy I've found so far when it comes to going a decent pace. We said only 5 miles but we had a bit of an adventure trying to figure out how to get on the birmingham bridge from the trail along the river in south side. We eventually figured it out after running in the bike lane for a bit, and then hopping the barrier onto the sidewalk, but it was better than running up bates!

Orienteering 1:14:28 [3] 6.9 km (10:48 / km) +205m 9:24 / km

What a beautiful fall day for orienteering at a beautiful park! The course went pretty smooth, with a few small mistakes. The terrain was fairly open but the combination of leaf cover and rocky ground meant it still wasn't too fast. I managed to step in a knee deep hole, but thankfully I didn't twist my ankle, I was just a bit more careful for the rest of the course.

Running 32:00 [3] 3.29 mi (9:44 / mi)

Super easy run with my friend. I don't really like running this slow but it was a super nice day so it was still enjoyable and it's probably good for me to take it easy every now and then.

Running 42:00 [3] 5.14 mi (8:10 / mi)

Ran a new trail in Schenley along the creek - it was really nice except for a few sketchy muddy/rocky bits. Definitely will run again.

Yoga 50:00 [0]

Very, very easy yoga class today. It was nice and relaxing though!

I love fall running :)

Yoga 50:00 [1]

I've been stretching to try to improve my hamstring flexibility and I could definitely tell the difference today - yoga is waaay easier when you don't have hamstrings that are about as stretchy twine.

Running 39:30 [3] 4.78 mi (8:16 / mi)

Nice morning run! It was a little bit chilly, but that was very welcome after the unseasonably warm weather we've been having.

Running long 1:20:21 [3] 10.06 mi (7:59 / mi)

I decided I wanted to run through Frick Park today, which inevitably turned it into a long run. I feel like it's almost easier to do impromptu long runs where I don't actually know how far I'm running because then I don't have to mentally prepare. My legs actually felt kind of tired, even at the beginning, so I was really surprised at the pace when I finished. I was feeling pretty tired the last couple of miles, but that's not surprising since I haven't run this far in at least a couple of months.

Yoga 50:00 [1]

Pretty easy day but we started off with Tibetan yoga which starts with spinning in circles. I almost fell over and was off the rest of the day - Tibetan yoga is clearly not for me...

Running 52:50 [3] 6.6 mi (8:00 / mi)

Felt really good today, maybe because all the hills felt super flat after the mountains I was climbing during the orienteering meet on sunday. There was a brief 10 seconds of almost sure death when I was running through the park but it was dark and I literally could not see anything and am not even sure I was on a trail. Somehow I survived. The rest of the run was good, and I really stretched it out on my way back home.

Orienteering 1:30:06 [3] 7.0 km (12:52 / km) +380m 10:07 / km

Today was a 3-leg, one man relay instead of a traditional point to point o-course. Apparently I'm really bad at these because after the first loop, I didn't realize the next map was at the last control so I ran all the way back to the finish looking for the maps before realizing that those plastic bags I had seen were probably the maps and not just for the water stop. I finally got the map for the second course, but at this point Alexis had caught back up to me and we ended up running pretty much the rest of the course together. After the second loop, I found the maps ok, but was in such a rush that I forgot to actually punch the control. So yeah, I got a DSQ. Oops. The courses themselves were really, really hilly. The park basically has two giant, super-steep hillsides (so basically it's a valley) which we had to climb up multiple times. There were a few legs that were literally straight up the hillside, which is my least favorite kind of leg. Anyway, by the fifth time of climbing up what felt like exactly the same hill I was getting pretty tired of it. Navigation was fairly good though, although some questionable route choice. Oh, and Jim's trying to recruit me to put on a meet next year - I guess we'll have to see where I end up because that could be fun.

Running 51:20 [3] 6.01 mi (8:32 / mi)

Was having a really hard time getting motivated to run today, so I planned out a nice '3-4 mile' route. I really need to stop doing this because my distance estimation is apparently awful. It was ok though, because once I was running it wasn't so bad, although a lot of stopping to cross streets because I was running through the city during rush hour. I ended through Schenley Park though, and fall is really starting to hit, so it is beautiful! Will definitely be doing a lot more running there in the next 1-2 months.

Running 30:00 [3] 3.72 mi (8:04 / mi)

Ran on the treadmill because it was supposed to thunderstom, although of course it didn't thunderstorm any of the time I was running so I guess my effort was in vain. I didn't do anything exciting today, which was a mistake because this was by far the longest 30 minutes of the week, even with some dumb tv show on for me to watch right in front of me. Maybe having sound would have helped?

Yoga 50:00 [2]

We did moon salutations? today, or something similar. Not a big fan - they require holding poses for a very long amount of time and my legs and shoulders were dying. I think I'll stick to the sun salutes for now...

Running 1:05:55 [3] 8.04 mi (8:12 / mi)

Planned out a nice route for myself in my head that was oh, I don't know, around 6 miles. Turns out it was 8, and I didn't even realize I had run nearly that far til I was done, so that's good I guess. My lungs definitely weren't prepared for cooler weather and fresh(ish) legs though, not quite sure why. I averaged sub 8-minute pace on the second half when I didn't have to stop at traffic lights every 5 feet.
