Yoga 40:00 [1]

I'm pretty sure deciding to take yoga was one of the best decisions I have made. It was the first day of actually doing yoga today so it was really easy, which was good because my hamstrings are destroyed right now. So excited for this class though!

Cross Training 35:00 [3]

Went to the gym after yoga to get in the routine of it, but decided I was way too sore from Monday to lift so I did cross training instead.
2000m row
10 min bike
1000m row
5 min bike
500m row

Strength 40:00 [3]

First time back at the gym for what hopefully becomes a routine this semester. Turns out 11am is a good, not crowded, time to go.

Front squats (70#, 8 the last set)/assisted pull-ups (#6)
Single-leg deadlifts (40#)/ incline bench press (25# per side)
Curtsy lunges (30#)/curls (15#)
Back extensions/leg lifts (15 per set for both)

Running 54:00 [3] 6.38 mi (8:28 / mi)

I convinced myself to go running by saying I was just going to do an easy 3 miles, but I actually felt pretty good once I got out there so I ended up going a lot farther. It's been really hot lately, so I haven't been running much, and I can tell my endurance isn't as good. It's supposed to cool off after tomorrow though, so I can't wait for some good running weather!

Orienteering 1:29:11 [3] 6.3 km (14:09 / km) +290m 11:30 / km

Overall I ran this course pretty clean, which was somewhat surprising since I hadn't orienteered since Frick Park, which was over 2 months ago now. The first half of the course went really smoothly, but I was definitely slowing down on the second half - partly, I think, because there was more off-trail. The boulder field on the way to control 13 was a minefield for broken ankles so I was going really slow through that part. It was a fun course, my only complaint would be that there wasn't a lot of route choice. A good amount of off-trail navigation through. Oh, and I could have done without all the spiders/spiderwebs that attacked my face.

Orienteering 1:47:04 [1] 4.2 km (25:30 / km) +145m 21:44 / km

Went out with my friend on the intermediate course. He did most of the navigating, with me only stopping him when I could tell he was lost or starting going the wrong way. He did much better that last time, and on a harder course too! We walked most of it, which was good since I was tired from having already done red myself.

Note

Last day of vacation before heading back to Pittsburgh tomorrow :(. We were going to do an 18 mile loop hike today, but unfortunately the beginning section of the trail was closed due to bear activity. We decided to just do the first section of the loop in the other direction, up to the first pass. It was still like 15.5 miles total, but it was cloudy so the view at the top was underwhelming. Probably a good thing we didn't end up doing the full loop, since we wouldn't have been able to see much besides fog anyway, plus I didn't really want to encounter a bear...

Note

This was the easy day of vacation, with a measly 11 mile hike with only ~2500 ft of elevation gain (but 3500 ft loss, which I think is worse). This was a revisit of the accidental 15 mile adventure we had last time at Glacier, except this time we did it as a through hike so it was shorter. I was not too happy when my sister picked this hike because of the bad memories, but it actually turned out to be a really nice, scenic hike. I remembered a few bits from last time, but most of it seemed mostly new. The way down felt long, so I can't even imagine how I made it as an 8-year-old child who hiked 15 miles on just trail mix...

Note

Day 2 of vacation and another 15 mile hike. We were originally only going to do like 10 or 11 but we decided to take the side trip to Iceberg Lake on the way down, which I'm really glad we did. There were waay too many people on this hike, but Iceberg Lake was really cool - we came at the perfect time of year where the snow had started to melt, but there was still a ton of snow/ice in the lake. On the way down from Iceberg Lake my sister decided it would be easier just to run down, and then my mom started half speed-walking/half slow running which I could not deal with, so I just ran down too. Probably like 2.5-3 miles of running, pretty much all flat/downhill, but in my hiking boots haha.

Note

Day 1 of vacation at Glacier. We did a ~15 mile hike with 3500 ft of elevation gain. This was the adventure hike of the trip for sure. It started with fording a river, which we managed to do in the completely wrong place, so it got kind of deep and fast. Luckily we all made it across ok, but then we had to do a good amount of bushwacking and rough navigation until we stumbled upon the trail, mostly by luck. Even once we were on the trail, it was very overgrown, and we had to ford another, easier river before the main (uphill) part of the hike. So the first mile probably took us an hour and a half, but we made good time for the rest of the hike. The view at the top was really cool though, I just wish it had been a clearer day.

Running 1:01:00 [3] 7.26 mi (8:24 / mi)

For some reason it felt the majority of this route was uphill...idk. It was worth it for the beautiful sunset I saw running home through the park at the end.
