Running 40:00 [3] 5.1 mi (7:51 / mi)

Well this run was fine until the end. I was running the same 5 mile route I've run about a million times, but apparently some construction happened while I've been away in Pittsburgh and the little trail from Ridgewood to Kevos Pond is no longer there...it was just a bunch of mud where they're gonna build some houses. I blatantly ignored the "sidewalk closed" sign, seeing as there was no sidewalk to begin with, but this turned out to be a big mistake as I ended up having to 'run' through about 50 meters of mud. Luckily I made it out ok, but my shoes ended up a little worse for the wear and I won't be running that way again.

Running 32:00 [3] 4.1 mi (7:48 / mi)

Ah, back to the old familiar routes I ran all the time in high school...

Running 48:00 [3] 5.7 mi (8:25 / mi)

Trail running out at Port Gamble with my mom. I wore my O-shoes which are great on trails! Running with my mom is always interesting because she goes pretty slow on the uphills but the last mile and a half was downhill and we were booking it - 7:35 for the last mile. A good change of pace from my usual runs though, and I always appreciate trail running!

Running 40:00 [3] 4.76 mi (8:24 / mi)

Felt so much relief since I finished all of my work and now I'm free for break!!!

Running 40:00 [3] 4.5 mi (8:53 / mi)

It was really icy today. I went running later in the day thinking it would be better, and for the most part it was. The combination of rain for most of the day and wearing my O-shoes meant traction wasn't that bad most of the time. However, even O-shoes don't grip on solid ice, and I took a nice cartoon-esque spill running over a bridge which was covered in a solid sheet of ice that I didn't realize until too late. Luckily nothing was injured except my pride...

Racquetball 30:00 [3]

Only ended up having time for one game today because it was much closer than usual and Kat is super busy since next week is finals week. I don't know if I was off my game (I'm pretty sure I was though), but I think the final score was 21-10, and we had a lot of good back and forth. I guess it's good to play a challenging game but I still like winning...

Running 1:01:00 [3] 7.36 mi (8:17 / mi)

So I made myself go running in the morning in the freezing cold because I knew it wasn't going to get any warmer later in the day and I somehow had enough motivation to go then. And yes, it has dipped below freezing and it's probably only going to get colder. I am still adjusting to this whole cold weather thing and I overdid it with the multiple layers covered by a sweatshirt so I was actually kind of hot. Except for my legs which went kind of numb, that is. I'm still not a morning runner, and this run literally felt 3 times as long as it actually was. When I got home I did not believe I had only been running for an hour cause it felt waaay longer than that, but hey, at least I made it through and finished. Maybe I should stop trying to run in the morning though, cause it never seems to go well. It was nice running when it was actually light outside though, since I don't get to do that very often anymore. I think I should aim for some afternoon weekend runs - not morning AND light outside - the best of both worlds!

Core/Strength 15:00 [3]

Short workout at home because I didn't want to go running and I made a deal with my friend to go to the gym this weekend instead of today.

Wednesday Dec 7, 2016 #

Running 48:00 [3] 5.75 mi (8:21 / mi)

Well I'm definitely still not used to this whole winter running thing and it hasn't even gotten below freezing yet. My lungs legitimately hurt for the first mile or so from the cold air. After that I don't know if they went numb or what but I guess they didn't hurt for the rest of the run so I'll that a win. It's supposed to get even colder now though so I'm really going to have to man up to get myself out and running in below freezing weather since I know I'm never gonna get myself on the treadmill.

Strength 35:00 [3]

I think this workout felt harder cause I was rushed since I had a meeting later. Luckily the gym was waaay less crowded than last week which I really enjoyed.

Barbell lunges (60#)
Calf raises/squats (95#)
Lat raises (8# per side)
Rows (30#)
Overhead tricep extension (22.5#)
Deadlifts (115#)
Curl to overhead press (15# per side)

Running 48:00 [3] 5.85 mi (8:12 / mi)

Ah, the joys of running during the winter. I actually got my layering just about right today, so that I was not freezing when I started, and I didn't get too hot during the run. I felt a lot better than I did yesterday for some reason - maybe because today was the first day since last Wednesday that I wasn't sore at all. It's really hard to get motivated to run when it's dark and cold outside, but I still like it more than the endless monotony of running on a treadmill - I'm just not sure I'll ever be able to do that. I guess I'll just have to keep layering up and braving the cold!

Running 1:00:00 [3] 6.96 mi (8:37 / mi)

So I thought that it would be nice to run through Frick Park today since I could actually run during the daylight. Unfortunately, I forgot how incredibly hilly this route turned out to be, and there was a lot of regret, especially at the beginning when I felt like I was about the die running up a really steep hill. Somehow I survived, and Frick Park actually looks pretty cool this time of year, since even though the leaves have mostly fallen off the trees, they are still scattered all over the ground. My legs felt a combination of tired and numb from the cold, which sadly did not make the hills any less painful. I guess I felt the fact that I haven't been running as much the past month today between the distance and the hilliness, but I'm still glad I got out and survived the run.

Running 36:00 [3] 4.33 mi (8:19 / mi)

Well it's really winter. Had to break out my long tights and headband today. Very busy day today but I'm glad I had time to fit in a run. Definitely didn't run as much as I meant to this week, but I was really busy so I didn't really have time at all to run on Thursday or Friday. Probably will run tomorrow too so I guess 4 days isn't that bad.
