Back to training again...and regretting taking that time off! Felt like I was running pretty slow although my lungs didn't seem to think so, but I guess I was running a bit faster than I thought. Excited for the new year and ready to do some good training!

Frisbee/Soccer 35:00 [2]

Tossing the frisbee/kicking the soccer ball around with some friends. Then we decided to play a little 2v2 soccer game...much more tiring that I expected with all the sprinting. It was fun to play soccer again since I haven't played in FOREVER!

Orienteering (Bog Slog) 2:01:28 [3]

So my first Bog Slog ever and I chose to run the hardest course...I totally messed up on 2 (the shorter route was definitely not faster or easier) and almost lost my shoe in the mud a couple of time...I definitely need to work on my bush wacking skills. I survived and finished though, with a couple of nice bruises to show for it!

Orienteering race (Course 5) 34:08 [4] 4.2 km (8:08 / km) +80m 7:25 / km

Attacked for 8 too soon but realized it and just went off-trail to the control - it was pretty easy to find. Otherwise a pretty clean course, mostly trail running without a lot of route choice.

Orienteering race (Course 7) 59:49 [3] 5.8 km (10:19 / km) +130m 9:16 / km

Poor route choice to 5, I tried to go north and then take the more eastern trail south to 5 but it would have been faster to go back past 3 and taken that trail. Chose to take the more northern trail on 7 to 8 and then cut across. I went too far south when I was cutting across but not too badly and found the control fairly easily. I was feeling pretty tired by the end of this course.

OK so I should have waited longer after eating/drinking a large glass of water before running...felt kind of sick the whole time until about the last mile, probably because it was mostly uphill

Really didn't feel like running today so I was proud of myself for getting out and doing it. Wasn't so bad once I started! Just ran my go-to 5 mile route :)

Orienteering (Street Scramble) 1:50:57 [3] 10.56 mi (10:30 / mi)

Pike Place Street Scramble with my mom! 2 hour time limit - we got all the checkpoints and got back nine minutes early! Really fun...managed to take a tumble running down a hill (whoever heard of flat sidewalks?) but thankfully no serious injury or damage to clothing. Too bad this was the last Street Scramble until April!

Weather was pretty nasty for running in so I did the elliptical instead...I much prefer running though because the elliptical is so boring! I increased the difficulty 1 level every minute all the way up and then back down and then about halfway up and back down again

Ok so I didn't exactly do the interval workout right because I forgot to review it before I left this morning. I did 100, 200, 300, 400, 400, 300, 200, 100 with 2 min rest in between. It was still hard because I'm not used to running fast. My times were approx. 16, 36, 61, 84, 84, 62, 37, 16.

Used tennis balls in my backyard for the courses...Ran the 2 line courses twice, once forward, once backward, and the numbered courses once each. Each course took ~40 sec to do, with a minute rest in between. Next time I think I'll try to do it before it gets so dark because is was hard to read the numbers :D

Orienteering race (Course 5) 26:14 [4] 3.8 km (6:54 / km)

Went in the wrong trailon the way to 6, lost ~15 sec. Had some trouble finding 12, lost ~15 sec. Overall a pretty clean race with no major mistakes! Note: it was VERY cold (for Washington, at least) and the ground was all frozen.

Orienteering race (Course 7) 43:32 [4] 5.4 km (8:04 / km)

Used a map with some of the trails and man-made objects taken off of it, which was interesting. I had a little trouble at the beginning in the disc golf course portion of the mpa. I ran right past 2 and stood looking around about 20m past it for ~15 sec before I turned around and saw it because it was very hidden by a small boulder. I also messed up on 4 because I didn't read the map closely enough and tried to get through the fence on the west side, but there was no opening so I had to go back to the more eastern opening. It was frustrating because I could see the control! 11-12, 14-15, and 15-16 were repeats legs from course 5. I was feeling pretty tired by the end...I need to run more this week!
