"Ophir South". M45AS / Hard 6: 4.3km, +195m, 12c. 2nd/5 (2:28 behind Rohan Hyslop ACT). 2°C (feels like -4°). TE 3.2.
Lots of steep hills littered with ankle-twisting rocks. Several kangaroos. Really enjoyed the long #3-4 leg. #1 - E to main road to pick up track through clearing and headed up to spine of next spur. Drifted a bit right but luckily I was still above depression (lost 50"). #2 - Down hill, cross two creeks before climbing up to RF. #3 - Up hill to intercept WC and follow to RF. #4 - Angular climb to top of ridge, then follow to AP. Used pit at start of drop away as AP, but bearing was a bit left (-20"). #5 - Straight. #6 - Up and over hill to pick up tracks on E side then over to W side at obvious crossing point. #7 - Up hill parallel to WC. #8 - Contour through gully. #9 - Contour from road. #10 - Mostly track. #11 - Down to WC. #12 - Track. #F - Straight.

Stopped at McDonalds Windsor on my way to Kahli's for an egg & bacon muffin and a coffee. Get back to the car and the key remote won't unlock it. Tried all the doors; can't get in. No analog keyhole on the Hyundai i40. Phone locked inside too. Borrowed Maccas phone to call home. Choice between waiting for NRMA or putting the spare key in a taxi (~50km, 1hr+). NRMA said they would be there within an hour. Great! ... NRMA guy wedges open the top of the door with a mini air bag and pulls the inside door handle with a long wire. On my way again after a 90-minute delay. Still not sure whether the problem is a poor battery in the remote or a computer problem in the car. Can't lock up the car until problem solved.

"Kahli's Rocks West". M45AS / Hard 4: 3.0km, +60m, 16c. 2nd/4 (7:10 behind Robert Bradley). 9°C. TE 3.2.
Very cold with wind chill but not as bad as SL10/11 weekend in early July. Avoided direct routes for the first couple of controls until I worked out I could run more or less directly through the bush. #1 - Track to bend, then run through open area to high point just beyond. #2 - Targeted boulders about 100m R of where I needed to be (lost 50"). #3 - Drifted right and lost count of which control I was up to. Reset from large boulder N of ctrl (-6'). #4 - Straight. #5 - Straight. #6 - Straight but got diverted to wrong control just before I reached mine (-50"). #8 - Straight. #9 - Straightish. #10 - Across clearing to bare rock just before pond. #11 - To other side of clearing. #12 - Straight. #13 - To fence gap. #14 - Straight to rocks before WC. #15 - Crossed WC but kept close on my right. #16 - Confused by red tape (thinking OOB). Couldn't see where new WC could be. Back tracked when I got too close to the finish (-2:20). #F - Straight. Best legs:
#1,4,5,7,10,14,15 (1st/4). Best pos: 1st/4 (#1).
Only scored 74 points in OY today so won't be counting this one in my best 7 events. But I seem to have wrapped up the M45AS title for 2018 because Ian Jessup isn't here this weekend. His maximum score drops to 960 and I'm already on 971. Thinking about entering the longer M55A races for the last two SL events next month.

Parramatta-Wetherill Park loop (CW). Very windy outbound; nice tailwind coming home. A total fire ban day and it's still winter. HRM misreading early on, probably drying out in the wind. 25°C. TE 3.0.
