9 AM

orienteering 25 [3] 2.0 km (13 / km)

RaidAran kicked off at 9AM. it was getting warm already.

We ran to 2 CPs at either end of town and then back to the bikes. I thought we had a great pace, but we were middle of the pack. This would be a recurring theme.
10 AM

mountain biking 1:00:00 [3] 15.0 km (4:00 / km)

nice little ride up a river valley and then back down. saw a warthog and her baby.
we got caught in a congo line down some of the steeper parts at the end and had to dismount, but not a big deal in the grand scheme.
11 AM

trekking 3:00:00 [3] 15.0 km (12:00 / km)

We disassembled our bikes quickly and were off for the first real section - a trek straight up a mountain, along a ridge then back down into the neighbouring town.

It was HOT at this point - I was sweating way too much on this ascent. I didn't think much of it at the time, but this came back to bite me in the next section.

We took a slightly different line from most teams, following the aquaduct up the first part rather than the creekside trail. It was probably equal time either way. Then we followed a trail to near the top, tried to catch some goat paths, but they petered out. The side sloping was a little slow and my legs were feeling sluggish with every additional incline, but finally we went over the ridge and were happy to see the CP in plain view below.

We refilled our bottles for the 2nd time on the descent and made good progress descending into the village.

At this point, we each broke off to grab a CP. Mine was in the quaint courtyard of this amazing church. wish I had more time to soak in the village.
