mountain biking (mtb-0) 1:01:00 [3]
really fun day. did my first mtb-o. as a general rule, i don't like 4 hours of driving for a 1 hour race, but i made an exception for the novelty of mtb-o, my favourite season, and a well-run race.
i quickly realized i couldn't do detailed map reading while biking at any decent speed, so i started to gamble, using a vague reading and a recollection of the route. that caught up with me between 4 and 5 when i quickly cycled off the map. when i realized i had gone wrong, i could not relocate because i had folded over the piece of the map i was on (to fit on my map board). it was ridiculous how long it took me to relocate, in fact, i couldn't, i had to back track. 10-11 minute error on a short course, race over i thought.
aside from that, just a few bobbles the rest of the way in. i felt really good physically, the IT band does not hurt on the bike. i wished the course was an hour longer - wasn't at all tired coming into the finish. i would have tried the course again if i hadn't committed to a foot-o date with my raid the hammer team.

clamperton and brian, did the MTB-o navigating on foot and i hobbled along. 2k in the IT band flared and it was painful the rest of the day. i'm really sore today.
though i have no pain on the bike, i think it's contributing to a muscle imbalance in my hips that is causing the IT band issues. that's my hypothesis, i really have no clue.
