Warm up/down 15:00 [1]
shoes: 2013 VJ Supra

Jog along part of the course before race. Firmer underfoot than in previous years, though quite wet in places.

XC Round 1 - Markfield

With recent cycle-related events and a lack of training, intended to take this as a run rather than a race. The HR doesn't seem to support that intention though.

Deliberately started steady in the mad dash around the first field - out into the woods running felt easy on the first slight downhill stretch and I eased past a few people. Some would then overtake on the flatter parts, I'd retake on the next up/down - and that was pretty much the pattern all of the way around.

Onto the last path and decided to put a concerted effort in over the last 500m - upped the pace again once back onto the playing field and then an all-out sprint finish ensued where I just managed to take the honours.

Not going to read a great deal into this. Despite the HR, felt that there was a bit more in the tank. A bit surprised to be 5 minutes down on time from last year, but that's what the circumstances dictate. Previous evening's preparations might not have been ideal either...

Warm up/down 20:00 [1] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: 2013 VJ Supra

Various jogging around post-race to cheer people in and provide support over the last half mile.

Running 30:00 [3] 5.35 km (5:36 / km) +55m 5:20 / km

'Easy' one from home. Didn't feel great, so cut out the second hill and went back. Got to remember regaining fitness isn't an overnight thing...

Running 1:00:00 [2] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 265

It's been a while - start of mission "don't fall over".

Club run from Church Broughton - off road of course :) Steady pace, not feeling overly speedy but that was to be expected. Ran without sling, no reaction from the arm, no falling over. All good.

Garmin didn't like me at the beginning of the run but hoping a reset has now sorted it out... didn't realise quite how buggy they were!

Note

Hoping to get back out tomorrow for club run. Feeling pretty terrible this evening though so hope it passes...
