Run - off road race 38:15 [5] 6.9 km (5:33 / km) +300m 4:33 / km

Riber Run - short fell race around the hillside to the SE of Matlock. Varied and enjoyable course, and felt ok racing, so good all in all.

Caught in the queue for the early stile as didn't go off fast enough, then a slow single track in the train through the woods. Gradient kicked up once hitting the field - kept running all the way up which was pleasing. Gained quickly on a small group on the first descent but too narrow to overtake until the next field, took a few more places there and on the next slight up.

Glad of the opportunity to walk on a narrow steep uphill through the woods, gradient eased and it was through a few fields and onto my nemesis - the road section... Only one place lost, just before the track got rough, where he slowed quite a bit and I was soon back in front. Dug in up this final slope with the knowledge of the downhill last mile. Just stopped myself going wrong back in the woods at the end, then it was the last little hill to the finish. Felt fairly strong here, which was a bit of a surprise, and went back past the one guy who'd got me on the descent.

In hindsight, the stop for stile and slow start may have done me good - happy to be able to tackle the hills as I did and still have a bit of fight at the end. Around 28th/100+, well down on Dave who broke the course record about 8 minutes up the road.

Warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Bit of token jogging before/after race. Probably should have done more, legs surprisingly ok the next day considering.
