Run - off road 4:05:00 [2] 26.3 km (9:19 / km) +1040m 7:47 / km
ahr:156 max:188 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 265

First proper test of the mudclaws out on the Edale Skyline route. Initial thoughts were to do all of it, but the wind was pretty brutal up top and took its toll on some of the party, so we dropped off the route down Chapel Gate to Barber Booth and back to Edale.

Looking at routes from last year's race (thanks Nic!), there were a few lines we took that weren't quite right, a couple more corners can be cut, and a bit of climb can be saved along the ridge to Mam Tor. Route from Win to Lose still currently unknown, so we just took the old route through the farm.

Physically felt better than I was expecting, deliberately walking up all of the hills but didn't ever feel out of breath and legs relatively strong. Regular food intake may have helped here. Pace was a fair bit slower than it could have been with the wind, and there were plenty of stops, but I felt I could have carried on without much issue. And I now know how slow you need to be to miss the Mam Nick cut-off!

Recce part 2 definitely required for the section from Rushup onwards. And I wish this cough would bugger off.

Ditched the Night Champs as too much faff involved...

Over to Shobnall, club run up to Clay Mills along the canal and back, then home. Still coughing on occasion. New shoes felt ok, and got christened with a bit of mud along the towpath, but were slippery on the couple of sections of wet concrete. Pretty much pancake flat for once as well.
