Running 2:45:00 [3] 18.0 mi (9:10 / mi)
shoes: La Sportiva C-Lite

Surrey Hills - third attempt, still don't think I've worked out how to pace this, get the feeding right or how to ensure the legs are still feeling ok towards the end. Maybe it's partly down to a combination of the 'terrain' and the slightly faster pace than the usual 'long run' pace. Calves started to twinge on the way down from 10, but never cramped properly.

Still, a PB by 8 minutes, even with taking the wrong path on the last part of Leith, and not quite getting the final approach to 9 correct. Finally got the alternative Pitch - Holmbury route right though, but I don't think it saves anything - only split significantly slower (by 20") than 2010, in fact, when I took the road option.

And a bit annoyed afterwards to see that the upper of these shoes has started to separate from the sole at the widest part of the foot...

Running 30:45 [2] 6.1 km (5:02 / km) +120m 4:35 / km
shoes: La Sportiva C-Lite

Easy around the short Chess Valley loop, to get the legs moving. Didn't feel great, but the hills didn't feel that bad either...

Orienteering 25:00 [4]
shoes: 2013 VJ Supra

Army 'dusk' champs, Harris format. 3 mins or so dividing up controls and checking we had them all between us, then a quick on-the-fly choice as to how to pick them up.

A few misses - not reading map/descriptions at 27 - sprint-like control on inside wall corner, hesitating at #5 hidden behind a tree, and missed #26 on a vague slope - felt the map was slightly off here. 90"-2' total lost. But clean through the vehicle track section - slowed a little bit, but this all seemed to make sense at a reasonable speed - pleased to get that bit right after the 'fun' at Bordon last Harvester...

Run - off road 1:01:00 [3]
shoes: 2011 VJ Supra

Nice evening run visiting most of the paths in Hodgemoor, some more than once. And occasionally bashing around in the woodland, with a bit of paper in hand, to play hunt the flag (without a great deal of success).

Matched the forest at the end - absolutely drenched. And not the sort of area to try no-compass training if you aren't bothering with the map either. Didn't really mind and circled around some more paths to push it up to the hour mark.
