My first of the legendary Sunday morning TP runs - group of five of us on the 'short' 12 mile route from Ilam in the White Peak. Good MM training - not a great deal of sleep, up early, decent uphill right at the beginning to 'wake' the legs up. Ran with 20 litre sack for the first time in a while - didn't really notice it, which I'll take as a good thing.
Route: Ilam, Rushley, Slade House, down Soles Hollow, Grindon, Ladyside, Wetton, Stanshope, Hall Dale, Dove Dale, Stepping Stones, Ilam.
Lots of pauses at gates/stiles to allow regrouping, and as I didn't know the route. Calves tightened up towards the end and the easy bit of the run along Dovedale felt slow, but the up/down bit still felt ok... Quads did feel a bit weak on the long gradual uphills - contrary to comment on Monday, hill fitness still clearly has some way to go. Crashing through the Dove by the stepping stones towards the end was quite refreshing :) - and attracted some comments from the walkers, who were starting to gather in numbers.
Cracking morning for it - sun out with no breeze, snow drifts still in evidence in a number of places, great scenery. Can't have been in the part of the country for a good 15 years. Will have to make more of an effort when I'm here, and there aren't any orienteering clashes, to get out on these.
